Tutorial

The objective of this tutorial is to help you mix color photography with black and white photographs. There are several ways to achieve this - here is one way...

Have you ever went to a Kodak store and saw a picture of a baby and the only thing that was color was her dress? I'm going to teach you this.

Note: I will have examples soon.

001: Open up a fully color photo.

002: Go to Image >> Image Size - resolution, 300.

003: Duplicate the layer; turn off eyeball of original background.

004: Open a NEW photoshop document; (File >> New) color mode should be grayscale (not RGB).

005: Edit >> Paste (your photo should show up in a new window).

006: Click on the move tool (the black arrow) and drag the new grayscale photo back into the original color document window.

007: You should see your grayscale photo on it's own, new layer.

008: Line up the two images directly on top of each other.

009: On the grayscale layer, magnetic lasso around the rose

010: Then hit the delete key

011: You should now see the color within the grayscale layer

012: Got to Layer >> Flatten Image (hit "ok" for discarding any hidden layers)

I hope this helped a lot. Have any questions? Ask me and I will help you.
