I swear...I'm about to lose it here. I'm 18, already, and I still have to worry about my dad reading my damn IMs? What the f**k. There's something wrong with that.

Not only has he read them, but he uses the information that he gets from reading them and uses it against me! dsalkjfgsd;oi; gpsd l ARGH!

I'm so tired of shit like this. Yay for dorms!

Even though you're 18, your dad is still your dad. Hopefully he's trying to look out for your best interests and help you to stay safe and out of trouble. Anyway, you'll be independent before you know it.
aera
i just close my windows when they come. once youre in college, he wont be able to read them anymore... but maybe he only read your IMs to make sure youre not buying drugs or something. =]
yummy_delight
That sounds frustrating.

Don't let it get you down though! Even though it seems like an overbearing thing to do, I'm sure he's not doing it to be an a-hole. He's trying to look out for you the only way he thinks he can. Don't fret, love. You're 18 and soon enough, you'll have a glorious dorm and your privacy! flowers.gif

Aww, that sucks. He probably is trying to look out for you. But you are 18 and in about a week or so, you'll be moving into your dorm so you don't have to worry about that.
miss barnes
how does he read your ims?
Nugget
Oh dear. Naomi, I'm sorry. I would hate that if that happened to me. If anyone read my IM's.. mellow.gif

me too...
aw naomi, console.gif that really sucks...and i thought my parents were bad. i'm really sorry to hear that. at least you're moving soon right? _smile.gif
_sarcastic_
just look forward to moving to the dorms. he probably does that cause he's concerned.
yellowgurl
i just minimize them if you mean he reads over the shoulder..but if its like reading your chat logs.. i either lock it or delete them and just not save them.. i mean there isn't much point in saving them anyhow since most of the time you don;t usually look back at them

but shes 18...she needs a life. if my dad did that then Id read his IMs. if not then tell him to back off ur an adult now.

-> shes 18

but shes 18.. ur technically an adult at 18.. able to do what you want... i think her dad has no right to read Her IMs
incoherent
perhaps closing the windows when you are done reading them will solve the problem, no?
SandRAWRz
well there is a folder where that stores all your IMs depending what kind of thing you have
so you should delete it

I know. It was a mistake, but still...f**k it, nevermind.

Just talk to him and tell him you're an adult now and he's got to give you your space.
Oranite
Good thing i have my own comp in my room and its password lock.
absinthe
my parents try to do that. but my pinky + esc button = MAD SKILLZ.
tetrastar
I think you can set it under preferences somewhere so that it doesn't save your conversations.
ichiban
yeahh, there was this time when my dad kept trying to find out what i talked about with my friends. and my friend told me that with 5.9 version of aim the convos can't be tracked or something..?
dahding
i got tired of my parents checking up on me.

so i changed the password of their usernames and email addresses for about two weeks.

and then they learned to give me some space.
megan_x3
18 - your free . College = dorm. Away from home. Your dad is probally just checking up on you. Close all the windows. That's what I do. Well my dad and mom is different, they don't know english so they can't do anything. But, you should probally tell your dad that you just want some privacy through your own personal stuff.
