Don't include me on the list of people who think PVP's are a good idea--I still see no purpose for one. Most of my time spent using an iPod is walking around--downtown, to class, whatever--and that's not really a possibility while watching a video.

^ but on the occasion you find yourself sitting down, it'd be nice to watch (or show your friend) a new music video, wouldn't it?

No, I have never really thought to myself, "Gee, I really wish I had something portable to carry my music videos around on, so I can sit down and watch them anywhere, or show them to anyone I meet."

in that case, shouldn't you be more interested in the cowen i audio mx3 (or whatever it was?)

smaller than ipod, didn't have a screen, purpose only to play music.
mipadi
No, man, because I like my iPod. I already own an iPod. It's great. I'm not in the market for another MP3 player, because my iPod works, and it does what I want it to do, and I like my iBook + iPod + iTunes combination. It works. It works great. I have no interest in getting another MP3 player right now.

I'm a poor college student. I don't have enough money to keep up with the latest trends or tech gadgets-of-the-month. If I had a few hundred to blow on an MP3 player, I'd probably be better off using it to buy shirts, which I need a lot more.
sadolakced acid
i was talking about before you bought your ipod.

it was cheaper than the ipod too.
mipadi
I still like the iPod more. I'm not disappointed in my purchase, and if I had to do it again, I'd still get the iPod.
tweeak
the only reason i might reconsider to get an iriver is to record.
latinprep12
yeah thats why i want one. thats so cool that you can record from the radio and then it converts to a mp3 file and well it looks better as well

The iPod Mini has been EOL'ed, but its replacement, the iPod Nano, also has a color screen. wink.gif
jooleeah
Mmm.

iRiver, just because I have the iRiver H10 and it's pretty good.

No, I'm not a rich or spoiled child. -_- My friends got it for my birthday. Haha, I love them.

iriver had a color screen before the ipod color debuted. and all these ipodders seemed to think at that time that a color screen was a waste because all they wanted was to listen to music.

Uh, that's great. I didn't assert the iPod had a color screen first; I pointed out to Latinprep that, contrary to what he said, iPods have a color screen.

I think the Ipod nano will be a big hit to the H10. It replaced the Ipod mini (which was the H10's comparative Ipod.) and it has a lot of nifty features and the color screen that people wanted.

Its also a lot smaller.

Thats just my opinion.

ha the nano got nothing on the h10. i seen it last night and the nano is thin. and blah, but the wheel doesnt light up and they dont hold as much. its probably gonna be a top seller dont get me wrong, but the h10 is way better then the nano and the ipod mini's

What makes the H10 better? If you by the comparative storage size. What's wrong with being thin? I don't see what makes the H10 amazing. I like it, and its a lovely. (I can even be quoted as calling it "a sexy little thing" or something like that.

The nano is its superior in my opinion.

It's like the moto razr, it can snap it half easier.

Plus I think the h10 looks better. Have you seen the h10jr? And I also like the straight up and down better than that irritating wheel.
artislife90
If you snapped the Razor, or the Nano you should not be allowed to touch expensive things.

I just found out some irivers have Ogg Vorbis support. Hooray!
rinchan089
I have an iPod and I love it. iTunes is great, the device itself is great, and so is the sound quality. The only thing I don't like is the short battery life.

My best friend has an iRiver and he loves it. The only thing he doesn't like is the fact that it doesn't have a good music program for the computer. It's cheaper and it holds alot of stuff and it can fit better in your pocket.

It really just depends on whether you want to go for the practical iRiver or the incredibly sexy iPod.

Rin-chan
sadolakced acid
oh yes.

i forgot to metion ogg vorbis.

it's quite a draw for some.

open source!

(^ and really, if you need an ipod to get laid, that's sad. laugh.gif )

Are oggs that big of a deal? I've only felt the need for them once, but I later found the files in mp3 anyway. Besides which, they're mainly linux, right?

It's a free compression algorithm, which means that companies who wish to have Ogg Vorbis support don't have to pay for a license.

(It's Ogg Vorbis or just Vorbis, by the way, not Ogg; Ogg is just the most common wrapper for Vorbis-compressed files.)
tweeak
Oh, ok. Interesting. (and I had just assume call them Ogg since I've seen .ogg but I'll keep that in mind)
kryogenix
Ogg Vorbis files are higher quality than mp3 files. However, I think they require a more robust processor, which is why some manufacturers opt not to include Vorbis support (also, it's not nearly as poplar as mp3's, but it's growing).
sadolakced acid
ogg is the package

vorbis is the codex...

like... .rm

real media. you can have music, you can have video.

.ogg can be music and (theoretically) video.

at least, that's my understanding of it.

and ogg does hit battery life a bit.
steezahh
as much as i really want the new iPOD ; the skinny one whatever. i dont really like to support apple; the way the technology they use is very poor; i enjoy CREATIVE! hehe the mini m0vo! great for everyday use the battery even last 15 hours or maybe a little less! but very good for 100$ or less [now.] even has an screen which a ipod shuffle has not. yeahh...oh AND it works with wondows media player...[free songs] most likely!

They have better sound and quality then the mp3 format, which is atleast 10 years old. I personally likc the ogg vorbis format, it's quite good. Most new mp3's should allow them to play. I know the h300s use it, im not sure about the h10's, but they might, not sure about the flash players either though. . Ipod Had them since 3rd generation I think. Creative probably does, they are the kings of sound.

"If you snapped the Razor, or the Nano you should not be allowed to touch expensive things. " - Hahahaha, true dat.

They stopped making the h320's, but they are still making the h340s
sadolakced acid
^ they've apparently stopped those too.

yea, it's hard to get any h300s anymore. they rock tho, and their value (used) is increasing.

once rockbox is enabled on them, they'll be perfectly wonderful. i can keep upgrading this thing for a while before i need a new one.

I never really understood what rockbox really was. I found out about it through hackaday.com and it was about archos. It did have an iRiver section, but didn't quite understand.
sadolakced acid
it's homebrew, opensource firmware.

kind of like linux.
EddieV
I actually ran into an H300 series yesterday, in the pictures I saw they look rather big, but I saw it in person and they actually look really nice...

Though I dislike the buttons, but than again we're not looking for looks, we want functions...
