anyone read The Catcher in the Rye or Black Boy for summer reading? I need to know if they're good books or not.
DrSMooTH

silver-rain

i'm entering sophmore year this year && i had to read nectar in a sieve. i read catcher in the rye before, i enjoyed it.
Im So Vain
I read Catcher in the Rye. That book was kinda weird to me. Like how it ended and all. The book was short so that was cool. I had to read that for my English 11 CP class.

I know a lot of people who read Black Boy and they seemed to like it. I've read part of Catcher in the Rye and what I read was hilarious. But then again, I was still at that age where any cursing in books made me laugh, like I was naughty for reading it.

Catcher in the Rye. SERIOUSLY...I love that book. It's good. Read it.
xklipse
i'm reading the catcher in the rye right now, it's easy to read, but im not sure it's good, I havn't gotten the "theme" yet. I'm going to junior....and im reading 4 books...bah. that, invisible man, scarlet letter, and farewell to arms >,> i havn't read the last book yet, anyone read it?
elmogurly
i read catcher in the rye when i was in 7th grade, so i dont think i fully appreciate the book. i should read it again. my summer reading books are so boring..and LONG

Le Morte D'Arthur=about 900-1000 pages.
salcha
Try Catcher in the Rye, I've gotten good reviews from that.

I read Catcher in the Rye for fun because I'm not a sophomore. Ah, I personally, really liked Catcher in the Rye. Throughout the book I kept reading, waiting for that one chapter that would make the book all worthwhile....The main character, Holden, he hates everything...But, at the end it gets a bit better && I sorta just ended up liking it. Haven't read Black Boy...sorry.
whomps
I have to read Catcher in the Rye and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Yup..

i read the crucible my sophomore year, but i was taking the junior class and it wasn't for summer reading. i read the autobiography of ben franklin for that, which cured my insomnia it was so boring
Spirited Away

I read it in 9th. It has to do with the Salem Witch trials. Actually, a girl 'witness' some 'strange' things and reported it and innocents were put on trials... anyway, it was an interesting read about how people's fears consume their senses.
PiGo
I read Catcher in 9th grade, but I didn'r really like it. All Holden did was complain about EVERYTHING
This Summer I have to read a book called Cat's Cradle, and I have no idea what it's about.

DrSMooTH
well, i finished the catcher in the rye.....didn't really get it. All Holden did was comlain. There was no real structure for the book. Anyway, halfway done with black boy. wonders79, you're right, it is very emotional. I love it, it has so much depth.
