Ok, so I modified this skin: http://www.createblog.com/skins/download.php?id=1233

And made it into this (my blog site): http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=friarblues

Here's what I need help with (and I hope you're looking at it with IE, cuz mozilla makes it look awful).

1) I would like to put my profile box, the calendar thingi, and the blogring/subscriber boxes underneath what's on the current site (under the big pic of me and my wife and the blog box). Preferably in three boxes horizontally instead of stacked under eachother (but I'll take what I can get).

2) find a list of urls for all those xanga preferences that I can never find (like where my events are, where to change my profile pic, etc). The main xanga site has got to have the least user friendly navigation I've ever seen, heh.

I can post the code to my site, but I'm not sure what I should post, since the only thing that I've changed from my basic xanga site is the above mentioned layout (which I entered into my header). Is my header the stuff I should post here or is there a different code that is needed?

And if someone can't do it for me, if they could point me in the right direction to find a really good tutorial made for dummies like me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!! biggrin.gif

P.S.- I have premium, if that helps.

laugh.gif hmm. .. well I looked at your xanga codes, and I came up with something for the 3 boxes in a row. You can mess with the length, width, etc. .. do whatever your heart desires, but this is just a sample, and I hope it will help. You should input the codes I posted before the "<div style="overflow: auto; width: 540px; height: 488px; margin-top: -582px; margin-left: -206px; position: static; ">" code.

Also -- I believe you should credit http://www.createblog.com/skins/download.php?id=1233 for the idea!! ^___^ I think it's a great design. happy.gif

Dudet, your awesome! Two more questions for ya, if ya don't mind.

1) I see that you solved my 3 box problem by making a table (cool, I understand that), but why did it have to go before the "<div style="overflow: auto; width: 540px; height: 488px; margin-top: -582px; margin-left: -206px; position: static; ">" code? (Just really curious)

2) Now that I have those three boxes positioned, where can I find the code to insert into each of those three boxes that will display the stuff that's normally in the left hand side of blogs (like 'subscriptions', 'my blogrings', and the very topleft part that shows a pic and stuff like 'read my profile' and 'sign my guestbook'?

Thanks again for your help!!!

P.S.- thanks for the reminder to thank the creator of the original design!

That's a custom module, is it not? I would delete the boxes from your code and replace it with a custom module, if that's what you mean. See my layout site dawg.
craziethao
Well you see. .. it had to go before the "<div style="overflow: auto; width: 540px; height: 488px; margin-top: -582px; margin-left: -206px; position: static; ">" code because if it went AFTER it -- those boxes would have ended up inside your blog body. .. with your POSTS! If you don't believe me TRY it hehe. .. just to get a hands-on feel. =D

And about getting the links to the pages you want like subscribe to me, look and feel -- how I do it is. .. I go to the CUSTOMIZE LOOK AND FEEL PAGE, cut and paste what I have in my custom header onto a note pad. So now it's blank then I save it, and go to my page. I right click on the links I want and click "copy shortcut" and paste that in a different notpad. And I continue doing that to every link I want for the navigation "box" -- always remember to label the links though (so we don't forget which link that is >_<). I don't know if I confused you or not.. . I really hope not. It's not that hard!! But here are some links that might be useful to you:

http://www.xanga.com/claf - customize look and feel
http://www.xanga.com/private/home.aspx - your private xanga
http://www.xanga.com/private/subscriptions.aspx - your subscribtion
http://www.xanga.com/Private/SubscribeTo.aspx?user=YOUR USER NAME - and this is the link people would click on to subscribe to you

And. .. as for the codes to those other things like your calender. .. it's already on your page. It's just hidden so you just really got to LOOK for it. But since I'm already peeking through your codes, I might as well get the job done huh? =) I think these are the codes that you want. If I'm missing anything, SORRY!

THIS WOULD BE YOUR BLOG RINGS

And this would be your CALENDAR!

You can also remove the table tags, and just use links. .. likE I do ^___^ whatever FLOATS YOUR BOAT!

Ah thanks! I see what you're saying about looking at the codes and just cut and pasting them where I want them.

What I really would like to do is move modules around. For instance, I'd like to move the entire subscription module to another spot instead of just cutting and pasting my current subscriptions to where I want them. The reason is that I don't want to have to cut and paste a new subscription everytime I get one, I'd rather it just appear as it does in it's original module. The same goes for the all about me module.

So, does anyone know how to move the standard modules around or do I have to do something tricky? blink.gif
craziethao
You know. .. that's a good question!! O_O i've never done such a thing. What I've always done is . .. make it totally disappear, and made my own modules wherever I wanted them. I like doing that just because I can do whatever I want to it--like adding more information about me, or an extra link. =) That's just my opinion though! But I hope there is someone who knows how to move the original modules around O_o would be interesting to learn.

Wow, it would, if you want to do that then why don't you just get custom modules? I don't believe you can move the orginal Xanga modules around. Although, if you could re-build your xanga and then use a default modules xanga code (if that even exists) to do it for something. I'm just thinking.
friarblues
Well, the problem on my part is that I don't know where the (for example) subscriptions MODULE is, and whether I can cut and paste it to the desired location. If you look at my site: http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=friarblues

you'll notice at the very bottom it says "guestbook" then "box 2" and "box 3". If I could figure out how to move the subscriptions module to where "box 3" is (not cut and paste each subscription I have, but actually move the entire module so that if I subscribe to something else it will AUTOMATICALLY update the box), then I'm sure I could figure out all my problems, lol.

I have a suspicion that this is not easily done.

And thanks craziethao, you've been a ton of help!

EDIT: I think this reply was to coco's original reply, not the newly edited reply above me :)

With that layout the modules are disabled. But the boxes are easily moveable, but you don't have anything in them so put your stuffs in there the way you want.
friarblues
*nods* so the question is how do you enable and move them (the modules)? whistling.gif
craziethao
hehe.. I think there is a misunderstanding here [or is it me that misunderstood?]. c0cONuTTeR stated that the ORIGINAL modules of xanga. .. must be disabled for the current layout that you're using! So because those modules are disabled you used custom ones [the ones I gave you] to replace the ones you hid. Knowing that -- what is the use of ENABLING the old ones? However it's easy to move your custom modules.. . just play around with the coordinates of "top" and "left".
coconutter
Thank you, honestly I don't see how that's so complicated.

Also, about the moving the original modules, I don't think that's possible. To enable them you just need to erase the code for disabling the orginal modules, Honestly, I think you should just get custom modules, it's much easier and not as confuzing.
