Do you at all think about where the clothing was made before you buy it? Such stores that make their products from sweat shops include Nike, GAP, and Disney. Sweat shops are very immoral. Think about a pair of Nike shoes that cost $120+ and the people (sometimes innocent little kids) that make them are running on a $0.15 cents per day wage? cry.gif

Ah. I never really thought about it too much.. But what can you do about it? Wouldn't you be benefiting them by buying their shoes? Maybe they'll get a raise if their product is popular.
reflection
^yes you would be benefiting them and they'll just keep running the sweat shops
my old teacher said that the only way they'll stop is if a large amount of their buyers stoppped buying the shoes
mai_z
^^you know...that would work in theory....but what happens when they close those sweatshops? then the kids have no money at all. I went through this crazy phase before when i thought about it a lot, and I don't support sweatshops, but if I was the kid who would do anything just for a bowl of rice, or a piece of bread...or even a clean glass of water, that 15 cents an hour is very appealing, and a lot better than nothing
Chii
i've known that for awhile, and it annoys me like f*ck that everyone is walking around with those ugly nike shoes that cost hundreds of dollars and ecko clothes and other sweatshop produced goods. it's so stupid, everyone wears the same type of thing and the same colors, red, black and white.

except for me, i don't buy ridiculously expensive clothes.

Yes they can move with $0.15 an hour...
Gypsy Eyes
It's where a majority of clothing today is made. Not just nike. It's horrible but it's a fact of life and their way to live. there isn't much we can do about it.
eli5e
i never knew that

..and i agree with the person above me... there really isn't much you can do.
pandamonium
yea i thought about that also. but think about it they have jobs and we are in a higher society were we have computers in our homes. they think that 15 cents is a big deal cause they have a job. People in africa dont have jobs at all so they think they are better cause they do have jobs. the most they can do is raise their wages to maybe a dollar an hour. but with that i guess the price of shoes would go higher.

its the preception of things. we live in a higher society therefore we think of 15 cents too low of a wage. this is only in my opinion . i dont know how hard they work like 6 hours a day or like 12 - 16 hours a day. but in my opinion they should get paid more.

even in the early 1900s teachers would get paid 5bucks a month and that would be considered a good wage.
Shahin
Oh well, somebody has to do it, and it keeps prices low.

I can't believe people can honestly sit here and say that it's okay that most of the world lives in squalor, as long as prices for products in the US are kept low.
