I think this is the place to put this I guess? Okay so I got an issue with photoshop I always seem to have it for some reason. But here is the deal, everytime I want to make a new image with photoshop it says that it's locked and I can't work on it.

Or when I open a picture and want to use the brush it wont work at all. The brush is set to normal and everything but it doesn't work. Nothing I try to do to the image works cause the thing is locked. So I was wonder what can I do so I'm able to work again? Thanks
whomps
maybe you should try reinstalling it.

Allright thanks I'll try that if not I'll go back to kicking the living crap out of my computer.

OK. So wait, are you OPENING an already made picture (set as .gif and .jpg and stuff)? Because if so, OF COURSE it's not going to work! lol. You can't paint, erase, or anything like that on that picture. Photoshop automatically locks it, or that's what happens to me. The thing to do is, select the image (w/ the rectagular select too) and then copy it (or copy merged, if it has it) and then go to file, and create a new file. Then paste the iamge you copied there. THEN you go and crop or paint on that.

You can't alter an already made image on Photoshop. It doesn't let you. You can only alter it IF you saved it as .psd file or some photoshop file. Otherwise, you can't do anything to it. BUT, you can copy it and paste it on a new blank file and then you can alter it and save it as something else. Hope that helped.

i usually just duplicate the image and unlock the 2nd image and keep it within the same image without having to create a new one. it works everytime.

No everything is locked, even when I make a whole new document and start drawing out of nowhere.
syndicatedradio
what is the file extension for the image?
waccoon
make a new layer, dont move the background.
check if there's a lock next to the selected layer, if so, unlock it.

Thanks for everything people but I gave up, I told my dad to upgrade Photoshop so now I got Photoshop CS pinch.gif ... Time to mess around now... Thanks though laugh.gif

it's likely something in your settings. i would need the file for me to be able to tell you what to do with it. if you want you can email it to me at my email in my profile.

it's up to you but, honestly im intrigued. i hate letting computers win.

promote the 'background' layer to a layer....so unclick the picture that looks liek a lock...and possibly rename the 'background' to layer1 or whatever....look in ur help file on more details on how 2 do dat

Meh my dad bought the upgrade cd so I wont be messing for a while so here is the deal. So when I open an image I can't use the brush. I can use the pen to draw but no brush and other things I don't really use since I don't.
