I dunno if Micron or whoever talked to Xanga about this but it looks as if the CB visitor tracker is violating xangas JS terms of service.

check it out.

Xanga's JavaScript terms of service

I dunno what to do, of if Xanga really cares.

any opinions?

eh -- i dunno. " Rules were meant to be broken " ?
Frizzank
I suppose so,

but like

am I gonna get in trouble if xanga decides to start cracking down?

I dunno.
jnukes
lol -- i doubt it.. i doubt they have enough time to investigate every single person's xanga for a visitor tracking code ..

^ how true, there are alot of xangans on xanga. And even if they did it would take like a whole week.
Frizzank
I guess so because theres also another new xanga tracking site http://www.trackablog.com and they arent in trouble yet. So maybe it will be fine, I hope.

all I have to worry about now is my comments coming back

Frizzank
Yah, I really wish that they would bring back my comments. like thats the reason im here lol since I cant have feed back on my xanga. I guess Ill come to createblog.

puh-lease. xanga isn't isn't going to do sh!t. mellow.gif

i looked at the javascript policy and it also says that you can't HACK INTO PREMIUM FEATURES (like custom modules) and over 3/4 of our xanga skins on cB have custom modules and ALOT of people have visitor trackers on their xangas so i wouldn't worry too much about it.
PinkTrash
i know; they wont do anything. it'd take too long, too many people have it, and its pretty pointless..
jooleeah
They wouldn't do anything. Xanga doesn't have time to stop people from "breaking the rules"....
jue
we're talking like millions of xangas that xanga will have to go through. and maybe another half a million which users dont use and are just there for testers. Thats alot to go through
freshxsmiles
Yeah, i don't think Xanga, has enough time on their hands to track every single person on xanga. Even if they had enough xanga staff. Personally that's kind of gay, b/c it helps with keeping track of people in and out..and so that you would know and stop people from jocking your stuff pinch.gif But yanno, w/e..i wouldn't worry too much!
WhiteLotus*
If they can't even shut down all the porn driven blogs, I'd doubt they would do anything to createBlog. You're safe now. _smile.gif

Come on, be logical.

It's a xanga.com TOS (Terms Of Service) which means if violated, your xanga account is subject to deletion with or without a warning. Personally, it would be wise if Micron were to contact xanga.com to make sure that the use of such a counter that shows specific users is allowed.

It would prevent any legal issues that could arise, seeing as though it IS infact stated in a TOS, which is a legal aspect of a site, and should be followed.

It would not be hard to do this. They could easily code a script that could search for createblog's tracker, and list all accounts that have it in their coding.
gelionie
I've read the rules before, and I know it's against the rules, but obviously a lot of xangas use trackers so if they're really going to shut all of them down... it would take a really long time.
jaeman
If they find out a lot of their users use this, they probably will just make a code to disable it instead of confronting createblog.
Eryi
They draw lines for specific xanga trackers.
Frizzank
I know they could easily make a script that searches for the code, thats what they did with the huge phishing outbreak a few months ago.
mocassinsx29
If createblog respects keeping that ad banner at the top I think we should respect their rules for privacy...

And your avatar made me laugh, "Frizzank." o_o
sweetxsimplicity
I remember reading that before, but no one really cares..
There are like dozens of trackers out there..
yours_truly
icky...

hmmm...

it can be our little secret? shifty.gif lol.
freshxsmiles
Personally this situation is becoming really really big pinch.gif . But its important.I mean there's way too many " specific xanga trackers" out there and easily XANGA STAfF can make a code. But you know.. cB's tracker is very helpful for our designers out there... Maybe i think xanga should make an exception..
Just_Dream
Personally, I don't think that people get xanga premium just for the xanga tracker thingy. Although the xanga tracker helps promote xanga premium, I'm sure Jusun talked to the xanga staff about this... Otherwise they would've cracked down on us about it a while ago... Right?

Some of my friends got so frustrated with xanga that they all moved to myspace. lol. :P A friend even got his xanga account deleted--he doesn't even know why. :/
Frizzank
I really dont think they will shut down your xanga for having a tracker, they shut them down for big things like phishing. I used to do that and have a list a mile long of shut down xangas.

and a threatening email from xanga.

oh dear.

oh well

farewell

Pulchritude

nahh xanga for shut down your site.... but most likely if they get fed up with people using it they will use a code to disable it... wacko.gif
