Key Senate Republicans are considering gradually raising the Social Security retirement age as high as 69 over several years as they struggle to jump-start legislation that President Bush has placed atop his second-term agenda, officials said Tuesday.
That is un-fair. I think it should be 60.

Interesting, how about telling people why you think it would be unfair instead of just saying that it's unfair? This is the debate forum, in case you forgot.

How about NO (you crazy dutch bastard)
[How about you get a verbal warning for calling me names? yes? YES! This is your verbal warning. <3 Fae ]Oops...I mean when you're 60 you've worked for about 30-40 years and that's long enough. Be 69 you'll die sooner (probably) so 60 is right for me.

I'd say maybe 65.
At 60 these days, people seem to be in pretty good health overall.
69 does seem too high, though.

i agree with the person above...65 seems about right, not that many people retire at 60 anyway, and if they are rich enough to retire, then they can just not work for 5 years, or get a easier job

The problem with raising retirement in the African American community is that many of our hard working elders won't make it to the given age. Even worse, a lost loved one who doesn't have adequate life insurance and is relying on some sort of stipend upon retirement won't have anything to give to his/her family.
It should be at 60

60....not everyone has a sit on there butt all day in front of a computer kind of job. Some endure physical labor like both my grandfather's jobs. Raising it to 65 would probably put most of those people in an early grave.

people dont HAVE to work, they can probably get unemployment if they are too young for retirement
