which one will win/ should be implemented?

It's a shame, first of all, that there even has to be competing DVD formats; it'll be like Beta/VHS in the early 80's.

I think, though, that Blu-Ray will win out. First of all, it has more storage capacity than HD-DVD. Secondly, as far as I recall, HD-DVD only has a few movie studios lined up, while Blu-Ray has several consumer electronics and computer manufacturers, such as HP, Sony, and Apple. Sony even plans to make the PS3 compatible only with Blu-Ray discs. I think that right there is a pretty big leverage towards getting Blu-Ray into the marketplace.

Of course, HD-DVD is a bit cheaper, and price often wins out over technological superiority--see the results of the Beta/VHS war for evidence.

There's a petition for combo drives circulating, though.

well, i think HD DVD will win out.

because the drives and disks will be cheaper.

sony will also admit 'defeat' much sooner than you'd expect- why? blu ray is used in the PS3. if blu ray isn't popular, no ones has disks or burners. therefore, no one can pirate PS3 games.

if the betamax/VHS wars are any indication; HD DVD will win. VHS was the worse technology, like HD DVD, but it was cheaper.

HD DVD will have a better start on producing cheaper machines.

if sony were smart, the wouldn't make stand along blu ray players. they'd make combo blu-ray and HD DVD drive, and let HD-DVD drives be made.

DVDs would start in HD DVD; people would by combo drives when they want something better.

however; longer movies and more special features will prompt people to use Blu-ray, and the functionality is already partially there.

well yes but the same sort of thing happens in entertainment...

and if i move it there, probably more people who are actually interested in which is better will participate.
