I'd say a simple machine. A Ferris wheel is basically just a wheel and axle; a wheel and axle is a perfect example of a simple machine.

The problem, though, is that a Ferris wheel contains a motor and other equipment to make it run, which could make it into a compound machine, as it requires more than one application of force to work.

^Stole the words right outta my mouth. If it were operated with gears it would be a simple machine, but if it were mostly powered by electricity, it'd be a compound machine. I personally don't think that it's a good question, but I'd put simple machine. Because, like he said it's the perfect example of a wheel and axle.

lol, at first I just read the question and I was like what the hell? Are you kidding me? I'd go with B.
