The Next Generation Consoles... Here are pics of either protypes or official designs of the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo Revolution. Im a BIG fan of the PlayStation series, but the design of the PlayStation 3 looks a lil retro don't you think? Scanner-ish... I really don't like the design of the controller neither. But overall, It's uh... "sexy" lol. We finally get a choice of colors too! I personally like the black one! The Revolution looks awesome as well, but I don't like Nintendo, so moving on. Xbox 360... I wouldn't call it a console anymore. It looks like my dad's Gateway computer...

Which one you think is the best?
Anyways, here are pics. Enjoy!

ps3 is going to be rad. i saw it for the first time today on tv. you right, the new xbox looks like a computer heart drive, but i think i like the ps3's design better. and plus, it seems like ps3 has better graphics.

I don't like Nintendo

why not?

i think this is a bit premature, since we still don't know too much about all of the consoles (the amount of info is biased towards microsoft, since they released first, so this poll might not be too great)

revolution. first let's look at console design (which really doesn't matter that much, but a lot of people made a big deal about it when nintendo had a big purple console, so it's only fair to do it now).

xbox 360 looks like a ipod crossed with a standard atx case. ps3 looks ok, but i don't like the spiderman font, the color and the shape is a little weird. the revolution's case is really small and good looking, and the drive is very nice looking.

the controllers: xbox controller is another copy of the dreamcast controller. ps3 controller is plain ugly. we don't know anything about the revolution's controller.

again, it's too early to say much. but right now, i'm really excited over the speculation concerning the revolution. to tell you the truth, i was actually planning on getting the ps3, until i started hearing all this great stuff about the revolution.

my concern is about the games of nintendo tho. like as much as i love nintendo they are also shooting themselves in the foot. cause here they are going to offer hifi capabilities.. but are there that many games that people can play with each other. i have been watching the e3 conference now and like they havent showed that many games except the usuall zelda metriod and mario... like they are basically recycled games. this is the only thing that worries me about nintendo. they say they are going to branch out of the younger audience (they are never going to do that).

but hopefully there will be a more widespread variety of games if they allow people to download the years of games worth for FREE. lol knowing that wont really happen. i hope they are free cause nintendo needs to be strong. now dont take me wrong i love nintendo but they need to catch up, but i am still getting revolution.
nightmare4taki
I like the design of the Revolution the best because its more portable than the other systems , but im getting a PS3 because they make the best games. The Xbox360's graphics look nice though.

I remember when I first got my N64. I didn't get a Playstation because my cousin had me hyped up that the N64 was going to be the best system. So I went with the N64 and although I liked games such as Zelda, GoldenEye, and Perfect Dark I realized that PS had the better games. Nintendo just makes game that are targets Kids. So when the Gamecube and PS2 comes around I chose the PS2 because its for mature players such as myself. Every since then I've been a satisfied gamer. Besides in the gaming market PS2 is kicking everyone elses ass. I really dont give a d*mn if Nintendo paved the way for these other consoles. My heart is so content that I will never buy another nintendo product again.

They aren't branching out to the younger audience? This conflicts with the "OMG NINTENDO IS T3H KIDDY I PLAY GTA !!!!111one" image that everyone attributes with Nintendo. From what Mr. Reggie Fils-Aime has said, it sounds like Nintendo is going to try to provide something for everyone in the revolution. Nintendo Legacy games from 20 years ago all the way to the newest games.

I doubt it will be for free, but I'm hoping it will be pretty cheap. $1 per NES game sounds fair to me. maybe $5 per SNES game?

Oh yeah, Gamespy has you covered on online service. Nintendo Revolution Online service will be FREE OF CHARGE.

Coupled with the fact that Smash Bros is coming out, I think the revolution is going to look pretty nice next to my n64 and dreamcast :)

that's a bit unfair, and incorrect. Sony doesn't make games. Nintendo is the only company that makes first party games for their console. The graphics you see are rumoured to be pre rendered. Sony did this last time with the PS2. They showed pre rendered movies, so that the Dreamcast graphics would look like trash. But when it came out, no one could master the "Emotion Engine", and the graphics of the first PS2 games were worse than some of the Dreamcast games!

i also think this "nintendo is not for mature people" argument has been overused, and is completely incorrect. half of the people i hear that say this are younger than me! nintendo has a fair share of "mature" games. but who cares about whether a game is mature or not, what matters the most is if the game is fun.

Blood, gore, violence does not make a game good.

Put it this way, would you rather play Windwaker (GC) or Pariah (XBOX)?

Yes, the Playstation 2 is number 1. So what? Sony is losing money on every PS2 they sell. They are forced to make the money back on software, which is the only reason they are still dominant. They got their console onto the market first, they locked in all the contracts so that third party developers couldn't develop for other consoles. Ditto for Microsoft, they have been losing money for quite a while now on every console. In fact, without Halo, the XBox would be a complete disaster.

Bottom line: Mature does not always mean the most fun. Games are what sell the console. The Revolution will have the biggest line up of games, available on demand. It has great first party franchises to bank on. Plus, it seems like it will be the least expensive of all three consoles. This is what won me over.

Kyro i respect you becuase you seem to love your Dc. The Dreamcast till this day has been my fav console. Oh i remember the times speeding through playing Sonic Adventure, and then wooping my bro's ass at Power Stone and Soul Calibur . ahhhhh , Good Times .

4x4 action with Power Stone 2? Hells yeah.

And I agree with Kryo on the non-kiddey aspect of Nintendo. Everyone thinks their games are kiddy because they are fun, and ANYONE can play them. They make games for an audience that knows no bounds. Its not as if they make sesame street games. Remember Metroid? Starfox? Are those aimed at children? No. Kids play them, sure, but they definitely contain a more mature form of violence than the jumping on turtles heads that Mario provides. Either way however, they are aimed at everyone, from kids to adults. And I KNOW Im 19 and I KNOW I love my Nintendo.

Considering the free online abilities of both the Rev and the DS, I wonder about the downloadable Nintendo archive. You would think that some would be free and some would be charged, I think.
Eryi
I want the Nintendo Revolution or the Playstation 3. The Revolution can play all Nintendo games, from Super Nintendo to Gamecube. The only thing I find cool about Xbox 360 is that they have Live Video Chat. Kingdom Heart 2 betetr come out in PS2 format. stubborn.gif
Justingamemaster
i'd have to say haha i was going for the PS3 this whole time...mostly because of 'CELL' and all i've heard...how it's supposed to be godly? in some sort of way? I went to Gamerzplanet forums...haha they said the PS3 was so powerful (CELL) it melted on the inside...Personally i think that's a bunch a crap. I dunno. Xbox doesn't have a lot going for it except halo 3 and stuff...I feel empty because the whole reason i bought my xbox was for halo and halo2...and when halo 2 came out...i was so disappointed! Ah well.

hehehe also on the side I'd have to admit Pokemon isn't THAT bad.
karrar
im getting 360 and the rev. What about yal ?
MasterMind5823
ahh...rivalries.I have to say i am nintendo biased. I still respect what sony has done.but you can't compete with the experience that nintendo has.even though they continue to recycle games, they are always fun. I agree that more maturity doesn't always mean more fun. Revolution looks so sexy compared to the gamecube and its seems like sony is recycling their theory of releasing a fat system then to release and thinner one later. That's pretty pointless.I like how x360 looks but it does look like a computer. I can't wait for online smash bros. i will kick people's asses and i guarentee you i will get beat too. That's the real joy of playing games.when the playing field is level, it makes for a fun experience.
I still love nintendo though
fameONE
is it just me or does the Revolution design look awfully similar to a PS2?

Nevertheless, I've graduated from Nintendo and I'm down with Sony.

Im looking forward to revolution and ps3. eh.. im guessing.. revolution (like any of the other nintento console) will have good multiplayer games and ps3 will have the rpgs and such.

Hehe, I read "Game Over" all the time. Good stuff.

And yeah, I realized that none of the PS3 demos were even remotely real when they were using a PS2 controller to do them. It was fairly easy to see that they werent playing at all.

I think all the stuff J.Allard said is maybe possible, but I doubt anyone will use it for those purposes.

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo comment on each other.

I like Nintendo's response the best, because it seems that they are most concerned with their consumers having fun. Microsoft and Sony are talking about making money and having their standards adopted.

CAN YOU SAY PRE RENDERED?

A PS3 did not render those graphics.
AngryBaby
interview with guerilla

Is the Killzone sequence a fair example of what people can expect from realtime gameplay on PlayStation 3?

Jan-Bart: Yeah, it's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make.

they also said though heavily scripted it was gameplay. dont worry Kyro man i looked that up. happy.gif
it being pre rendered is a rumor of the skeptics.

and lets say it was pre rendered, they couldve done a way better job than that.
cuz there is alot of mistakes like when they transportation exploded and the player looks away then looks back and all of a sudden. Nothing is left, no rubble, no fire, no smoke, nothing. If you pre-render something is that even possible for something to dissapear completely once it has left your view?
iNyCxShoRT
I say the PS3!
BombaTwist
I Pick NINTENDO REVOLUTION!!

I Also Have Every Single Nintendo System, event though alot(not all) think nintendo is crap now, it still sells more overall, i mean, the Gameboy Advance itself sold 28+ million, and the ps2 sold like about what? 10+million? Nintendo maybe Old School Now but Old School is still 1337! Its all about the classics, Gamecube by far has the best graphics out of the 3 current console systems, it just depends on the game you play for Gamecube (Resident Evil 4 shows the craziest/best graphics ever seen on the Gamecube and ONLY for Gamecube), Alot of people say the PSP is better than the DS but, WRONG!! Nintendo always releases something other companies never have done before, (ex. the DS touch screen, do you see any places that sell gaming handhelds with a touch screen? not at all. pictochat? nope, DS download and play? nope. So thats why i pick Revolution, plus, kiddy games are WAY fun than those third party developers that support Sony And Microsoft, why? more multiplayer action =).

EDIT: oh ya, the Ds sold over 5 million coppies already and it hasnt been a year yet =), PSP hasnt even sold 1 mil. yet.

Link to where you found this?

Emphasis on the word trying. This is exactly what happened with the PS2.

http://www.games-digest.com/2005/05/ps3_graphics_ch.html

QUOTE(Games-Digest)
Marv Burkett, nVidia's Chief Financial Officer, has revealed that the RSX chip, due to power the PS3 is currently unfinished. The chip is not due to be available to anyone until September. Which means the stunning visuals shown at E3 could not have been created on one, casting doubt on the validity of Sony claims that the visuals were real PS3 in-game footage.

Now, even if it wasn't pre rendered, it's only a demo. Sony did this with the PS2 (see my post earlier in this thread for the "Game Over" article that discusses this) in order to screw Dreamcast over. They had demos that had stunning graphics, but when the games came out, the graphics were not very good (in some cases, the dreamcast versions were better!). Demos are much easier to make than real games, it's only made to make the game seem really great. This kind of act has turned E3 into a hype fest.
ThunderEvermore
Lets not forget as well, that even if it was a demo using the confounded chip, that there is little processing power going to the things every game has, AI, graphics animation, environment rendering, blah blah blah. That cuts the real graphics power down a notch.

The demos were of one scene in one possible game. It wasnt even a level, nor was it playable. Theres little or no reason to believe that these are renditions of what the PS3 is capable of, especially without the chip to back it up.
kryogenix
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2461&p=1

The article pretty much destroys the hype around xbox 360 and PS3's processors.

Xbox 360's processor is really only twice as powerful as the regular xbox's processor. Cell is also not as fast as Sony wants you to think it is.

So guys, spread the truth, make sure no one believes the lies that we were told.

xbox looks er.. and the ps3 is clean and i do like the ps consoles but that looks kind of cheap i guess. plastic like. i dont knowwwww pinch.gif . the nicest looking one is definately the nintendo. i was like ohmy.gif . haha. but i might buy the ps3.

Well not with the consol itself, but when they launched it and how they advertised it. The consol itself it nice.
uLoVeMikeRoch
Actually, games in general are becoming more and more useless.
There was a site I went to, a couple months ago. That proved that gaming these days, and especially on the next generation consoles, are about everything besides gameplay. It said that most developers focus on graphics, sound effects, and whatnot to make it real. But they only look real, when you play the game, certain aspects that should work, don't. For example, in one game if your character has the ability to jump. How come you can't jump over a little blocking thing that only comes up to your shins, in a closed area or a part of an escaping castle level, (Cough Ocarina of time Cough, even though you can't jump in the first place in that game, just a level example) Or when you shoot magical fireballs and such, such as in superman, that you cannot destroy simple cars and buildings? THere are also invisable walls that agrivate everyone.

I don't remember the site, so don't start hating me for that, not being able to back this up. But alot of people no are so old-school that sometimes they won't even look at a new console. (Ex: Even maddox is against all the new graphical technology and effects. He sticks with old school, but he has a gamecube, as he reviewed in Ikaruga which does not make much sense. But then again, Nintendo is old-school So i guess it does.)

Also another thing, have you seen DMC4? Not the movies of anything, like in game screenshots? They look pretty amazing to me.

Heres are my opinions:

Nintendo Revolution: i am very curious to see how much Nintendo will try to beef it up to compare with the PS3 and Xbox360. The gamecube was a good console IMO, but the games were just....almost kiddish.
Pretty soon, i felt like it was out of the running compared to ps2 and xbox. Nintendo will have to make a drastic change if it wants my vote

XBOX360: When the first xbox came out, i was a little biast, and kinda thought it wasnt nearly as powerful was the ps2. I was wrong. Although i dont have full trust in microsoft, i do believe that it will throw less crap at us than sony. If it does turn out more powerful and better, i will glady pick this over the ps3.

PS3: As much as i like sony, i feel as though it wasnt as good as its former glory. when i first read the article about killzone looking the same as some of the early ps2 games, it got me thinking if sony is just getting lazy. But, one thing that has yet to fall short of my expectations is the games that sony provides which i thoroughly enjoy. Im very unsure if this is the system to get, ill just have to wait for more info

Kiddish? As opposed to Kingdom Hearts? Yeah, Mickey Mouse is so NOT kiddy.

I'm sick of this "Nintendo is for the kids" argument.

Nintendo makes games for EVERYONE. Young and old alike.

Remember the 80s when entire families would gather around their Atari or Nintendo and play asteroids or something? Of course you dont, youre too young, but it happened. And it was glorious. No one said those games were kiddy because they could be played by everyone.

Teenagers, adults, old men still play Mario games.

Meanwhile, the non first party games, there is just as much M-rated games as any other system. Plus, RE4. Hello, Nintendo exclusive. Full of scary goodness.

Get with the program folks, just becuase everyone says Nintendo is kiddy, doesnt mean it is. Just because everyone buys an IPod doesnt mean its no good. And just because everyone watches reality TV doesnt mean its worth while to watch.

One, i didnt say games like asteroids were kiddy

Two, yes, now that i think about it, Nintendo games r made for EVERYONE and i take back what i said

Three, the reason i said that Nintendo made "kiddy" games were because games like Paper Mario or Star Fox Adventures looks like a game that would usually whoo younger audiences more than adults in my opinion.

Four, the fact that i stated Nintendo made kiddy games was my opinion. it doesnt make me right nor wrong, just what i think
