May 13, 2005 — The pressure to be thin in Hollywood has been passed down to the new generation of young celebs — and their fans. A Teen People magazine survey shows teens across the country continue to measure themselves against the people they see in movies, on TV and in magazines.

The body image survey takes an in-depth look at how adolescent girls see themselves and identifies what influences their self-images. Of the 1,553 teens ages 13-18 surveyed, 58 percent said women on TV and in movies, as well as the women portrayed in fashion magazines, cause them the most insecurity about their bodies. More than half the girls believe they weigh too much, while the vast majority say they would change something about their bodies, most of them, their stomachs.

New photos of super-skinny teen movie queen Lindsay Lohan and TV's "The Simple Life" star Nicole Richie are raising concerns not only over the health of these young women, but the message they are sending to their fans.

The survey also reported that one in three teen girls has been urged by her parents to change her weight, mainly to lose it.

Some positive news reflected in the poll; most young women have never taken an over-the-counter diet pill, or purged after eating, and 75 percent say they would never consider plastic surgery.

Dr. Carol Wiseman, assistant professor of clinical psychology at the Yale School of Medicine, has tips for parents on how to spot a potentially dangerous body image that could lead to problems later on:

Teens wearing baggy clothes
Negative self-talk
Downplaying achievements

Wiseman also suggests parents tell their children they look good exactly as they are, and encourage them to get involved in sports and other activities that do not focus on their physical appearances.

As for if I'm to believe Lindsey is on crack/has an eating disorder...eh, no. Let's take Nicole Richie for example, a real druggie. She went to rehab before the first Simple Life started so she gained a bit of weight. It's taken her about a year to shed what she gained and she's not exactly a woman of formidable statue in the first place. She's tiny and I don't really expect her to weigh much anyway. Perhaps Lindsey was sick with mono or something and couldn't eat.

Man, I hate drugs! I went into the loos at a club in Bath yesterday and heard this huge snort. About a minute later this guy comes out white as hell and I've seen that face before on a Cokey. He staggers out shaking and nearly got in two fights on the way to the bar. If he survived last night, I want to know his guardian angel. Seriously I don't understand! I think she just needs a hug....

Those pictures do look kind of fake, but there's no doubt that she's been losing a huge amount of weight. There was a picture of her in US magazine I think, and they were talking about it on the radio. Whatever, I never liked her much anyways.

Those are not real pictures of Lindsay Lohan. Please remember that she has a big bust, and in those pictures, she does not. Rumor has stated that she had surgery to increase the size, which would mean that even if she lost alot of weight, her bust would still be large, prior to losing the weight.

Basick, you have no idea if that really is her, and if it is, the real way she lost weight. Learn to not cause such hurtful rumors. There are actors out there who lose alot of weight for a role they are playing in a movie. That weight isn't lost by doing drugs--it's called eating a specific and tight diet, and daily routine with a trainer.

Tom Hanks lost alot of weight for Cast Away.
Renée Zellweger lost weight for the second installation of Brigdet Jones' Diary.

There are others that I can't think of, sorry.
