Erm.
This probably would be easy for you to answer.
Well, you see, we're learning fractions. I'm the kind who doesn't pay attention in class. So.. well.. I know how to do it. the problem is, that the way my teacher tells us to do it is, well, a little.. hard for me to do. And confusing.

So, my question is, can anybody give me their way of doing a multiplication problem with fractions?
This is 6th grade math. It should be easy for you.. >.<

Like this problem:
2/4 x 5/22 = __

My way is a little bit.. hard. so, I really want to have an easy lesson of doing it, so it could be easier for me. _unsure.gif

Thank you.
willyam
you multiply the numerator and denominator striaght across duh
it would be like multiplying the 2 stright across to the 5 and same with the denominator
2/4 x 5/22 = 10/44
mona lisa
It's actually 10/88. 4 x 22=88. wink.gif
Paradox of Life
Edit because my last post made no sense:
Yeah, like gotnoheart said, Vietrice, you multiplied wrong. 4 x 22 = 88 wink.gif

Let me draw you a picture:

The answer isn't 10/88 if you're required to simplify it.

It should be 5/44 simplified.

You could work work it like this, too:

Simplify the problem so you don't have to simplify the answer. _smile.gif

Haha, whoops. I can't believe I didn't see that.

Ahh, it's okay. I only pointed it out because I remember getting A LOT of points off for not simplifying the answers.

^ lol, fae. that's so cute. (the picture)

mhm, I have another question..

Can anyone help me on something like this?

I know that something like 8 x 3/4 is equivilant(sp?) but.. I had a problem today that was like.. not equivilant.
like.. 3 x 1/4 = ?

So, yeah.. Can anyone help me on that? huh.gif
mona lisa
3 is the same as 3/1. So it would look like this:

Oh.. :D thankkk you, mona! throb.gif

okay, this is the last one.

4 1/3 x 3/2 = ?

would be.. how?
I always thought it was multiplying fractions first, but then I'm wondering about the whole number..

ya like this?

Again, it's a lot quicker if you simplify the problem before working it out. That way, you don't have to simplify the answer.
