Yeah, like if you want to be able to watch videos through Createblog, set up a createblog premium for a price. Altho you GOTTA give ppl the option to stay non-premium and kepp going for free.

Why would cB want to use up so much unwanted and unnecessary space to store videos that people can watch on their own? Google is already coming up with that sort of thing.

This isn't a very good idea, IMHO. It started out and remains a free service. If we were to start charging for unnecessary extras...no way. Besides, there are free video hosting sites online so why would we need to do this anyway? Also, not many people make their own videos, so yeah. It'd be pretty pointless.

i think a createblog premium package would be cool though, just not necessarily what you said...like premium members can have pink links for their names or some sort of special feature that they can use that regular members dont already have. also it would be a part donation/part premium thing if you catch my drift

yes, i definately agree with her. I mean, we're a free service, why should we change it?? it's not like we're offering things that need to be bought and such. and like others have mentioned it'll be a waste of space...
I second that. Both you you took the words right out of my mouth.

That's a stupid suggestion, imo, i mean... the reason why cB is popular AND unique, is because it's a free site. And making premium things will just not be fair.

Her idea was basically that of being a donator and getting some sort of recognition through her efforts to support CB.
just to reiterate her idea:
I donate $5 to CB through paypal (or whatever.)
In turn CB then creates some sort of visual recognition be it a pink username or group: donater (which would have the same capabilities as an official member..)
With that being said, it's not really that much of a "stupid" idea. Even if it were to be a premium option, it's not saying that all members have to pay. It's just giving a member the option to pay some kind of annual/monthly rate to receive special privelages that free members don't have access to. It's definitely fair; You pay/"donate" you get more.
I know of a few design sites that provide layouts/icons/graphics have some available for free, but they offer more if you pay a 6 month fee so you can gain access to more stuff.

I think this CB premium idea is very much similar to official members now, except that official members do not need to pay.
I'm not into this idea.

May 15 2005, 03:46 AM
In a sense, being a premium member would be far better then having official member status. Being an official member should stay the say, but with being a premium a little more... options (not that there are many..) and privelages, per se.

The whole purpose of createBlog was to create a free, fun community, and provide free blogging tools and skins. Making people pay isn't supporting the idea. >>;

There's no need to be rude about it. That was an example I showed; I did not state that createblog was a design site.
Who cares if people have that idea, it's their opinion, get over it.

why are you guys so worried that what createblog already offers for free is going to start costing money?...i dont believe any one said that...createblog will still be the same and offer the same services you get today for free. I'm just saying, for people who donate they should get some recognition like what jordanriane said...wow every one flips out at the word "premium" rofl

what do we value more? giving back to the people or wherever this money is going? people who donate $5 a month get a free site tracker (or whatever official members get), hooray. that doesn't mean that they're going to post here and give opinions on issues. they might be contributing to wherever the money is going, but that doesn't really mean they're .. contributing to the rest of the community.
where, specifically, would the money go?
i am against the idea.

then CB would be asking for money....and it makes them sound so gold diggers.......Everyone should have teh same advantage...some people might not be ablt to afford this kind stuff so we should just keep it free for everyone

Paying for the costs to run the domain, to keep the site running.
There are alot of sites out there that are created to help the viewers, and asking for donations is not a bad thing. You're using this for free, while the creator(s) are paying monthly (or however payment for the hosting is set up), why not help out, send maybe $1-5 to be a premium.
If you can't pay for it, then don't, it's not being forced down.
If you don't want to pay, then don't, it's as simple as that.

I'm not sure about premium, but donation sounds like a good idea.
And for those who
don't get it, you don't
have to donate. It would just be nice. Donate $5 every now and then, keep a 5.0 ppd, be in a "Donators" group, get the official member privaleges, along with some others. Others like being able to close your
own topics only. Maybe have
VERY limited moderating powers in the topics they are most active in, but for this they must maintain a 10 ppd. And maybe somebody can come up with a different tool...like a layout generator

as much as I hate the thought of generators on createblog. Or maybe a
myspace tester, I believe we have a xanga. Or maybe blogger, website, and livejournal, who knows? I think a donators group is a
very good idea, I believe it would be hard to pay for this HUGE site by yourself....
And oh, maybe by the staff list all the donators can be listed, so they are noticed for their contributions to keeping the community running.
However, I am against the videos.

Hm.. I would have to say that donations do sound nice, but Jusun has not asked for them... yet. Perhaps he doesn't need them to keep cB going? There are ads here, of course, which probably assists in maintenance fees. :P

if you want to contribute, buy a cb-tshirt
GREASEbaby
Apr 16 2006, 11:44 AM
^Maybe some of the people here who want to donate don't want a cb t-shirt. They know that they might not wear them so they don't want to be wasting their money. However, they want to contribute, but there basically is no other way.
