It was her last night here in town,
She sat away from the door – a few seats down.
A cup of coffee is in grasp of one hand
Her head was spinning – she was unable to stand
Her eyes were swelled up with tears
A flood came – after being pent up for years.
Her silhouette was just in a soft linger
Her coffee was swirling – traced by her finger.
She ran away from home – of disgrace and hate
Into the city where her future awaits
A man in a clean suit and tie
Wonders if she’s going to die
“Excuse me, ma’am, may I help you?
I could not help notice you were feeling so blue.”
With one desperate glare, she looked at him
Her stone cold face feeling so grim.
“What do I have to do with you?” She wonders out loud
The hint of frustration and anger draws a crowd.
At this point, she stands up and leaves
Out towards the door, in and out, she weaves
The man chases after her, a desire to help.
He grabs her by the shoulder – she lets out a yelp
“What do you want from me?” She asks
He says: “I know you’re beautiful behind that sad mask”
She looks at him – the first time to see a smile.
Her smile so beautiful – it was worth the while.
“Tell me why you’re alone tonight
Under this small town – to no one’s delight.”
She sighs – and sits on the curb
A sigh so long – it wants not to be disturbed.
“I came from home of unjust and beat
Getting out of there seemed more of a treat
But I like the freedom that I have found
To me, outside was full of free people around
For days, I survived, even had extra cash
But after a week, life went down to crash
I was shivering and cold with no place to sleep
All I could do was sit and weep
I worked as a waitress at the nearest grill and bar
In no time, I was able to catch a car
My fare didn’t take me as far I hoped
Newspapers and billboard signs for jobs I groped
After I had given up even more hope than I had
I was rather happy to meet a guy named James Chad
He was eager to help – a man just like you
But after a few days, he was gone as I knew
He said to visit him – in a big city
I think he only said that to take pity
That’s why I am not so certain to trust you
How can I be sure you won’t leave me when you’re through?”
He looked at her with sadness in his eyes
With one nod upwards, he looked to be praying to the skies
He finally comes to a concluding decision
He takes out his wallet with careful precision
He looks at her and back at the money
This was a tough decision – nothing funny
He hands her the money and smiles sweetly
She pushes back the money completely
He nudges it towards her with determination
She looks at him with great admiration
“Why are you so eager to help someone like me?”
She asks him trying not to sound as surprised as can be
“I was in a situation very much like yours
Full of slaps in the face and shut doors
My mother abandoned me in this cold world
My father, a drunk, in the corner he curled
I was the breadwinner of a family of two
Only after my father died, I knew what I had to do
So off I went to a big city looking for work
Only to be turned down by many executive jerks
After struggling for years and years,
I finally made it through that it was worth all the tears
But in those years of struggle, I did not make it on my own
A woman taught me that I wasn’t lonely and alone
She donated money to me – knew I had potential and esteem
She was the one who fulfilled my only dream
She helped me try and try over and succeed
She was the only who told me a coach was what I need
A day before her death, she summoned me to her room
Only to stay with her until she was in her tomb
She left me her will – full of money and her things
She believed on what my future had to bring
So this is one of those cases where I decided to help you out
I know you can trust me I know without any doubt
So please take this as a token of gratitude
To a woman who changed my bad attitude
Go to the city and go find your man
Promise me you’ll go through with this plan
I’ll take you to the city as you like
I’ll be your guide and supporter alike
Like my friend, I think you have what you need
You’re just an eager little plant-wannabe seed
I’ll be your gardener, someone who’ll take care of you dear,
That you’ll see what I’ve been doing for you - you’ll see it so clear
But let me advise you – this is what will put you to the test
I don’t want you to be tempted and take advantage like the rest
Just let me be your leader – you’re only and best tour guide
Just fasten your seatbelts and go along for the ride
I promise you, it won’t take forever
All you have to do is be wise and clever
So take this token – take it for me
Take it if you want to be great and free.”
With one reassuring look, he nods and hands the money to her
She takes it – feeling guilty but everything’s going a-blur.
Everything’s happening to fast – she can’t even see
That the man who helped her is an angel to be.
She doesn’t know that she’ll thank him later
That’ll he’ll turn into something more than a savior
“Thank you, Thank you, How can I pay back?
Shall I send you all the money later or give you a plaque?
Surely, you’ve done enough for me
But how can I be sure I didn’t take all your money?”
He replies, “Hush, don’t panic, it’s all taken care of
Do not worry this is from kindness and love
For those two qualities, you don’t need to repay
For this act of kindness will surely stay
This act of kindness will be marked down
Not in a book, not even in the history of this town
It’ll be written in your heart and that’s where it’ll be
Just do what you have to do and be what you have to be.”
With one huge smile, she pulls him into a hug
It was so warm and cozy – they fit in all snug.
