As long as you sign up to a website which required your email / name / any info. its illegal unless your above 13 years old.

So when someone under 13 joins, its considered illegal, and some (paul murphy for eample) become spammers. the last forum i had which was an Invision fourm btw, got taken down because we had people under 13 on it. So i'm just saying, for the love of god add a age verifyer in the sign up page.

yeah but when people lie, it's their fault and not createblog's fault. and we're trying to not get createblog shut down.

Is this site hosted in the USA? If it is then the Admin better get his act together and mighty quick.

If it's hosted elsewhere he better get his attorney to check the local regulations otherwise it could lead to a serious prosecution.

In either case the Forum could still be removed by the ISP.

age verifyers.. how would you do that? Anyone could lie about their age..

Having just the age verifier does what? Nothing. It says whether the person is older or younger than 13 years of age. They would still be able to see and post in the topics that aren't necessarily PG13 or topics that they're too young to see/hear/think about, although it is a rule to keep it PG13 in the lockers.

Do not forget that with some sites, although a user is under the age of 13, as long as their parents "verify" what they are doing, they're allowed to sign up for the site. I know that when I signed up for an old e-mail address at go.com, if your parents where there to verify, you were able to have the account.

Certain sites also allow you to join so long as you enter in your parents e-mail address, and they verify. I think it's usually when signing up for e-mail address.. I know SBC's parental control does this.

But can't they just post up another one of their e-mail address and claim it as their parents'?

Well, at least this age verifier thing would be better than nothing.

Createblog would not be at fault for that. As long as they provided an age verification script when signing up for the forums, there's nothing that can be done about it. Yes, you can go around age verifications for almost all sites (unless they require entering in a credit card number as age verification, as most credit cards require a holder to be at least eighteen.), but again, if the option is there to put in an age and have a verification (ie: under 13 have parents consent; parent's e-mail to approve, etc.)

its for ppl 16 or older..(i think) but yet my friends hu r 13 already have one..so ppl r going to lie, so its no use...thats what i think...

it's for liability reasons, not to keep people 12 and younger out.

yes exactly. its not the responsibility of the site to make sure there arent any minors under 13. ive updated the registration form.
