Thats crap. Plenty of UK girls-only schools play soccer and hockey. Both are sports played at co-ed or boys only schools. Both are heavy duty team contact sports.

This is 2005. That kind of repressive prejudice is what held women back and still holds women back. Refer to various threads regarding skirt length, lingerie, sex practices etc.

...& to answer the question. There are very, very few legitimate reasons to oppose single-sex schools. There are none at all to advocate abolition.

I dont go to same sex school, but i know two girls and one guy that do.
they actually say that its not as bad as people try to say it is. they said u actualy concentrate better, and its not like they dont see the opposite sex anywhere else than school. i think acedemically its better for you. but i wouldn't want to go to one,
but thats only for social reasons.

your social abilities would be limited once you got out into the real world..like if you went to an all-girls school, you wouldn't know how to talk to boys a lot and stuff unless you met people outside your school or whatever..

however, there's always good things about it. there would be less catfights between girls at an all-girls school, since most fights stem from boys or are about boys.

i'd rather go to a co-ed school myself, but i don't think same-sex schools should be abolished. if parents want their kids to go to a same-sex school, they can go, but i think when they're older they should be able to choose.

Yeha i know this is supposed to be affirmative but i'm doing both sides of the problem.
ok a pro is that girls and guys would be more focused into their school work insteadof orrying if their boyfriend was cheating on them or if they guy they had been friends with liked her. A con is that the guys would like ditch to try and go to torture the girls.

Absolutely not true.

From the 1st Semester in any Senior single sex schools, even Catholic ones, there is a deliberate and concerted effort to introduce girls to boys and vice versa via regular school initiated functions.

This includes drama, sports tournaments, disco's, day trips out and field trips to other parts of the country. Add to this the regular holidays that are provided by schools, either sports based such as skiing or educational such as visits to other countries to view archaeology and ancient culture, these all offer excellent opportunities to socialise and meet the opposite sex.

And as you offered, there is always the Mall to hang out in.

It is so much dependent on your own ability to communicate as it is with the familiarity of situations. Rather to be in a single sex school where the onus and emphasis is upon education than a co-ed where hormonal temptation is constant and in fact possibly overwhelming due to peer group pressure. But, again, it is down to the individual.

Actually in history class we talked about this. It came up because a kid braught in a current event about how I think it was two schools in California are running tests about how it could possibly be better for schools to be only one sex.

I think academcily it is better. It's much easier to concentrate. Also, you're not trying to impress anyone or anything.

My history teacher went to an all boys school. He said he was glad he went there because he still socialized with girls outside the school so he still had a good social life. He had a girlfriend in his sister school and they went to the prom together (the sister school and his school shared a prom).

My mom went to an all girls catholic boarding school. She enjoyed it. In fact, she's the one who asked her mom if she could go. She has to be the most social people I've ever met and can get along with anyone as long as they respect her.

So yeah... There are many advantages and disadvantages based on your view.
