Well, actually what i'll do is continue dating him...

How old are you. If you're not atleast a junior in high school dont bother telling your parents cuz you guys will most likely end up breaking up and its not worth the hassle to tell the parents.

If you ARE old enough and marriage is a viable possibility then might as well tell the parents and explain the details. When a relationship has developed to that point most parents are pretty understanding.

Same here, my parents would rather that I go out with Chinese guys only, and marry a chinese guy and date in college. But, in the end, it's really my decision who I want to marry.
Anyways, I haven't told my parents that i've got a boyfriend, and i don't plan on telling them either.

I'm in an odd situation...:

I'm not supposed to date anyone who's not Chinese [-American].

My sister saw some of my conversations with a close guy friend and she misunderstood them.
The guy is American and she knows his brother.
She thinks I'm dating him and threatens to "ruin my life" by telling people I'm dating an American.

say this "f*ck you" no don't say that. this is hard for me cuz i can date anyone i want as long as they respect me and aren't too old. that includes girls, jews, christians, chineese, italian, english. doesn't matter. but, i'd say you should tell them this "mom (and/or dad), this guy is really nice. i know he doesn't have our same background, but he's really sweet and respects me. he understands me and i really like him. won't you at least give him a chance? you can meet him if you want." and see what they say. that's the best i can do. and for the people who say just tell them to stay out of your life.... it'd be cool if you could, but i doubt they'd even let you out of the house. i mean, you'll probobly going to get into more trouble and have less of a chance to see him. well, hope you get to see him!!!

you shouldn't have to go by what your parents tell you. you can date from whatever ethnicity you like. you deserve to be happy with whomever you please.

My parents I KNOW only want me to date Nigerians. I think if i were to date someone white(they would have less of a problem if they were from somewhere else, like chinese,viet,japan,hati,jamica...so on but not just white) my dad would get over it eventually but i don't know about my mom.

Basically, if my parents don't like the guy I'm dating, I wouldn't care. Ethnicity isn't a big deal to me. So what if he's black, white, yellow, purple. It should depend on other aspects besides ethnicity. I call it being prejudice. "I do not want you dating him cuz he's African." WTF? Now if the boy you're dating has a criminal record, that's a whole different story.

i would say "its my decision and if you have a problem with it then too bad i like/love him and thats how its going to stay. Just because you have problems with people of different ethnicities doesnt mean i have to. Either learn to like him or learn how to live life without me"
