What is up with people not caring and thinking that their "too cool" to care?

I was talking to someone who I thought was chill and pretty cool, but once I mentioned my friend Sally who has breast cancer... his reponse just... I don't know.. but he responded with "Who cares, as long as you don't have it right? Then life is good" I didn't know what to say... I just hung up.

I thought I knew, but now I really want to know... what is wrong with people these days?

Idk wtf was wrong with him , but people these days dont understand those kinda things unless it hits home like to a family member or friend.

I remember this kid in class , saying that he wouldnt care of any of us died that were not apart of his family. It was a joke , ( and in spanish ) most people laughed but I felt uncomfortable about that statement.

Well someone told me that and it was total BS. But yea, that guy sounds like he needs Breast Cancer and see if he likes it.

Seems like some ignorant fool to me though. Looks like none of the people close to him has cancer or anything...

That guy is a jerk and had he say something like that in my face about someone I care about, it would have took every once of will power in me not to slap him.

Well hey.. we can't force someone to care about other people. I mean, I bet your friend doesn't even know who your friend Sally is... And if your friend did, then he might secretly loathe her or something.

At least there's someone like you who does care about her. And sorry about your friend.

He wouldn't be so heartless if a family member or someone close to him had it or some other life-threatening disease. :angry:

It's how people think when it doesn't affect their life .. maybe if his friend had breast cancer then he'd care .. but since his life isn't affected by it, he acts like it's nothing.

Oh he knows who she is. He had a crush on her last year. Something must of happened over the summer I don't know about between the two. I just can't believe the guy... only caring for the people he's close too, and yeah I guess I can't expect or force everyone to care. I just don't get why they don't... pretty naive of me but I just want to know why?

I don't know who you've been talking to...but it's obvious that this guy is a jerk. The least he could've said was "sorry." But to be honest....it might be just him...don't bring down many people for the mistake of one....Just because he said that...doesn't mean that someone else or anyone else would do the same....

I can't believe someone can be that unsympathetic towards a situation like that. I know how you feel. I had someone close to me pass away from breast cancer last may and no one understood how I was feeling, except for the people that knew how it felt to have someone being that sick. Maybe your "friend" was feeling uncomfortable when you mentioned it and that was his only way of changing the subject..I don't know, just trying to think of an explanation.

unfortunately, many people still only care themselves. yes, they're selfish grubby little bastards that should be shipped to the middle of nowhere, but meh. u gotta to deal with them.

and it's really hard to not know someone with some form of cancer. u might not be aware of them, but yeah.

i work for the american cancer society for volunteer hours. it's a great cause.

Agreed..how can people be so selfish..my grandma had it also. And a lot of people in my life have had cancer..including my dad and my bestfriend. Ugh..like that winter person..who was laughing at the "rip kiddo" topic. Which happens to be a girl who was recently killed who lives not that far from me. People are so insincere

They seem to think it makes them cool. The sad thing is, insulting others is also what makes them "cool."

Maybe he's the type of guy who's afraid to admit his true feelings about how he feels about her. Maybe he DOES feel sorry for her -- is just not admiting it.

Wtf. He has no right to say that. I mean, he has to imagine himself having breast cancer if he was a female. That's just wrong.

i understand... sometimes people can be soo inconsiderate.

at my school we are having a 24hr wake a thon. and we have an option of -staying over- at the school. (overnight) w/ games and stuff to keep ppl awake. but to attened the stay over you have to have a min. $25 in pledges.
so this is the scene afterschool...

girl: is it ok if i dont have the $25? can i still go to the stay over?
me: sry i dont think so..
girl: well then can i just keep the money?
me: no...
girl: why not?
me: because your raising money for the charities not yourselves!!!
girl: oh.
me: anyways i think you can get arrested for it... its fraud
girl2: yea we should just keep the money


grr that makes me angry.. its like they have never gotten pledges for people before. how inconsiderate can you get?

^^Yeah I see a lot of things wrong with the world these days. Like when I go walk around with my friends just hanging around. I would see homeless people asking for not much but a damned penny. I could hear people and just watch them pass by with such stern stubborn voices quickly saying "Sorry, no money" then they just quickly walk away. It disguists me...

Tommorow I plan on having a little chat with that guy. Hang out with him just to see what he's really like, and how much he's changed because I have hardly hung with him this year. He seemed like a cool guy one that I could relate too, i'm just wondering why he would be so inconsiderate... hes not much of an actor but his voice, it didn't seem as if he was hiding anything.... I don't know...

Most poeple these days just dont have any sympathy for others.

there's this guy in my math class. we were doing probability and the population control of china, and we were supposed to come up with a fake plan of how to control the population, and the guy goes "we should have concentration camps". everyone laughed! i wanted to slap him SO hard!!!
