I have been using Yahoo's Geocities for quite some time now, ever since the day I learned my first piece of HTML. Right now, however, Geocities is frustrating me. They used to have their advertising in a little popup window that was very easily closed... but now they contain their advertising in a sidebar which can be minimized, but not closed.

Not too alarming, but it messes with some of my div layering mad.gif

So... I'm wondering if any of you know of a good, free (very important) webhosting site. Also, If at all possible, I'm wanting one with it's own FTP built in, like Geocities. Easy upload. I know it can be googled, but you can't exactly get "oh, this website really worked for me," or "NO, that one was STUPID!" from a search engine!

Thanks :D

Thanks! I just signed up for Angelfire, not sure if I like the way they have their ads or not. I'll fiddle around with it to see if it works. And I looked up 1and1.com, and it's very cheap, but I am not ready to pay for my site yet.

I'll go look at the big book of resources. Though I'll just have to go blind clicking without an accompanying review, I'll live.

Though if anyone still knows of one, let me know.

edit// oh, sweetdreams, I'll have to check that one! thanks!

Hm. You seem like you'd make use of webspace. If you want, I'm offering you a subdomain on my site. Umm yea it's compatible w/ php, ssl, wutevs the works. No ads of course.

The only problem is that there's no built in ftp. But if you go for it, a ftp program isn't that big of a nuisance.

IM me at ATREIDESPHALANX or PM or soemthing if you accept.

Here's my site: http://atpx.net

I used http://www.freewebs.com before I got my subdomain. It's pretty good; no ads.

allthatglitterss: thanks! I tried freewebs.com and it's working very well for me... so far! Thanks!

DaTru KataLYST: I'm all kinds of honored that you would consider me for a subdomain blink.gif ... wow! But I think that right now I'm going to stick to free hosting. I haven't even known basic html for a whole year yet, and everything I do is so experimental. However, I'll keep you in mind... when I get to that point where I'm ready to move up! Thanks again though!
