most chinese (or asians?) eat shark fin soup and love it. i am chinese. i love shark fin soup. it is yummy.

i think that if we can eat cows and pigs, we can eat sharks...

cows and pigs can be farmed.

sharks cannot.

therefore, shark populations are being depleted by eating them.

cow and pig populations are not.

Well in asian culture there's shark fin soup. I think it's okay i mean you don't want sharks overpopulating the ocean. If Sharks can eat us why not vice versa

We shouldn't even discuss this, since humans eat everything that can breath and eat, and it isn't considered to be abnormal.

Cats, cows, dogs, guinea pigs, fish, pigs, snakes, frog legs, fish eyes, etc...the list never ends.

I wouldn't be surprised if humans started eating eachother. (err..meaning that it isn't considered cannibalism [and is a normal occurrence])

were hypocrites....we wouldn't eat dolphin fins right? cuz there all cute and friendly, even though they probably taste better!
but we eat sharks until they become exstinct cuz they're a threat to....umm...surfers?...like the ocean is OUR territory anyway.

You're so right. It seems like common thought amongst this thread is that eating sharks is ok because; 1) we're carnivorois and 2) sharks are somehow a threat to our existence because they're such aggressive predators.

Maybe its just me, but a lot of people have a hard time seeing the bigger picture. Ok, so a surfer gets her arm chomped off. Thats a tragic fate for her, but, c'mon, who lives the water?

If someone wants to eat them, let them eat it. I personally wouldn't want to but, I'm sure to some people, it's not different than eating steak.

The argument isn't whether or not someone wants to eat them, the argument is whether or not its inhumane... which it clearly is.

does it matter that if the sharks die, the whole ocean ecosystem will be shot, and all the fish will die, resulting in more hunger and whole economies crashing?
