So I think my computer needs a new video card since it can't go over 16 bit. My res is 1024 x 768. The colors doesn't look too good on 16 bit. Anyway so how do I know what kind of video card I need?

well, I'm personally an ATI fan. but these are the most common, I dont need to explain. Look at their specifications, they usually tell you what the system requirement is, as long as you match the system requirement, you're good.

Also note that if you have an old computer that doesn't support AGP, buy a PCI card instead.

if you have no need of intensive graphics processing, then the Radeon 9000 will do well. It's actually better than the 9200.

As of now, I don't know enough about Nvidia except I know the 6200 is ok.

well it depends, if you need a video card for gaming, then you might as well get a new board that supports AGP. in my personal opinion, PCI cards really are worthless. you can look into the Radeon 7500. see if those work for you.

The Radeon X300 chipset is often used on PCI-express video cards, and it's very good. MSI makes a good model that you can get for about $60.

But make sure you actually have a PCI-express slot on your computer. PCI-e is relatively new, and even new computers often don't have PCI-e slots yet.

i personally use nvidia 6600 and have an ATI Radeon 850xt AGP i know they sound expensive and they are but if your looking for top notch performance those two cards are good and also ATI Radeon 9800 series are good too GeForce aint that bad either but i recommend what mipadi said about the radeon 300x if your looking for good and cheap get that one

yeah i feel yah friend there had to work my ass off for that Radeon 850xt and man were they expevsive lol but also i agree on the 9800 they are still top sellers and working fine

Nothing beats my x16 6800 ultra...nothing. If you have $450 to blow, i advise you to buy that and a pci-xpress mobo.
