There is a sweet 16 this Sat. and my friend says I should dress semi-formal, what on earth is semi-formal is that like a polo shirt and khakis or somthing...

Yea, pretti much what everybody has said.

full-formal would be a complete set of tux/suit

semi-formal would just be suit pants(wateva you call it) and a button up shirt.

Yeah, semi-formal is usually just some nice shoes with khaki or black pants with a polo or dress shirt and is topped off with a tie.
I usually always go formal to anything that people will dress up for, even if it's semi-formal, I'll come in a suit.

Something like khakis, or some sort of pants that aren't jeans, a polo or maybe a button-up shirt or one of those, a nice jacket perferably from Gap or Banana (or something), and nice brown/black shoes.
