Yes, my mom says things that are slightly stupid. Sometimes she contradicts herself or she will use a word similar sounding to the one she means to use or she was just say utterly ridiculous things. It's quite funny actually. I don't really get mad about it.

See, you have to understand though that there are alot of cultures/religions out there that believe that the hymen is virginity, and that use of anything that can tear the hymen, can cost you your virginity.

I can't remember what article I read, but there was one lady who went so far as to have to a surgically added hymen, because she had pre-marital sex or something.

This thread is pretty upsetting. A lot of you guys are calling your parents, the people that gave you birth, stupid, morons, dumb, ECT. Way to show your respect.

ANYWAY, it's common for foreign parents to not understand American cultures. We grew up around this. It's so much different for them. In other cultures no one is allowed to see/touch your vagina, let alone put anything up there. It’s completely unheard of.

Many foreign parents go through a series of culture shock and there way of deal with it is by totally dismissing the ideal without the knowledge of what they are saying no to.

I suggest you sit your mom down and explain to her why you want to use a tampon. If you have no particular reason to then her answer would be understandable. There's nothing wrong with pads.

I've found that parents are so much easier to get along with if you're not constantly fighting every little thing they say. Just talk to them. They listen and they love you. They just want what's best for you.

I love my mom and all, but sometimes she's just not so.. smart.. about things. I'm going to Hawaii in a few days so I asked her if she could buy some tampons just in case something comes up and she starts freaking out. She said they were only for married people or people with "experience" and etc. Crazy.

And I agree with May. My mom's not from here so I guess she doesn't understand American culture and such. But sometimes it's just hard for them to accept things and in this case, it's tampons.
