http://www.aim.com/tos/tos.adpDo not use aim anymore, because their EULA requires you to give up your privacy.

I've been using gaim, or switch to IRC.

luckily i stopped updating when they came out with that version where you could pay for expressions, which i know was before feb. 5th.
edit: darn it, i thought it was feb. 5th 2005, not feb. 5th 2004. i've tried trillian, miranda, and odigo, but they all seem... weird. i don't know. i'm going to go try gaim.

Eh, I used trillian for awhile when the .dll files for my aim wouldn't work for the longest time, no matter how many times i removed and reinstalled it.
I haven't tried gaim yet, might do that.
I didn't like trillian because you didn't have the option for a profile, and direct connecting was a bit akward.
I don't use aim all that much anyway so I'm not too worried.

violation of the 4th amendment directly. that amendment is so dead now since this is happening.

it's not a violation of the 4th amendment because you agree to allow them to read your messages.

that is why i don't like any of the third party instant messengers that i've tried. i think you actually can have a profile, but it displayed weird. you need some plugin that you can only get if you pay for pro.
thanks for the link. i'm downloading gaim as i type this.
edit: i also reinstalled miranda this morning. i love it's simplicity. if you guys want a minimalistic IM client that works... you should check it out.

whats the difference between the debug version, the regular exe and the no-gtk version?
william
Mar 12 2005, 06:56 PM
i tried gaim, but the font was all funny. i think it has to do that my standard system font is 6pt silkscreen. oh well, i'll work it out.

Whoa... really? I didn't know that. Well I think I just forgot because I kept telling my friends and my sister and they didn't listen. They think I made it up. My sister usually never listens to me in every words I say sigh well only when it's her FAVORITE program. she LOVEESS AIM... eh anyways thanks for the notice again.

get the regular exe if you're not sure. debug is if regular exe doesn't work and you want to find out what's wrong, and no-gtk is just gaim without GTK (only get this if you already have GTK installed).

they can read all of your conversations and post it for the public to see. by using aim, you agree to allow them to do that.

yes, i know we're allowing them to do that but it's not like they really would do that.....that's like knowing you have porn on your computer, that doesn't mean you HAVE to look at it....

Just by using an AIM product (even AIM 1.0), you agree to those terms of service.
EDIT:
SORRY I MADE A MISTAKE! EVEN WITH Gaim, YOU ARE SUBJECT TO THOSE TERMS!Just by having an AOL account forces you to agree to those terms.
However, don't abandandon gaim just yet.
http://gaim-encryption.sourceforge.net/You can encrypt and decrypt IMs with that.

if someone really needs like private conversations, then they would use another network like IRC or something else. In fact, if there is extremely confidential data being exchanged, they wouldn't even be using public iming programs.
