Hey there... just thought I'd show off my very first attempt to make a skin. The code is still sloppy, but I'm still playing with it. Let me know what you think.

i give it 7/10. i love the graphic at the top. did you make it?? anyway, it's a good skin, very neat. i suggest making your modules a bit wider, so the info doesn't look so cramped.

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you like it. I'll play around with the modules a bit... thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, I made the graphic from a piece of fantasy art. Mostly just colorized, cropped, feathered, and text added. Used one of the colors in the newly colorized picture as the background color.

Very good for your first! But your banner shouldn't be so big as in height, make the width wider so that it matches the width of your body as well. Or shorten your body width.

This is the graphic I first created to build my site on... I had to modify my plans for the site while I work on the coding for this...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v18/Eart...whisperback.jpgI'm not thrilled with the size of the graphic that I'm using now, either... been trying to work on something that's a bit less size, but just as much impact. I'm still learning and practicing. Thanks for the tips and compliments.

i think its cool that you put your own artwork into your skin.

looks pretty nice, but the eyes on the date is kind of bugging me.

looks nice, i like the brown, but the banner is small in width and then you have modules and your blog area big, it would be nice to have just the blog instead of the modules, and the banner is so long, but i like it.

Personally I like this one better: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v18/Eart...whisperback.jpg. I think that the image is awesome but that it doesn't look good as a huge banner like that. It shouldn't be really used as a banner but rather as an image on the side of the blog area or something. Also, I hate when people put images behind their dates, like the eyes. It looks much better without anything.

Actually, that image isn't meant to be used as a
banner, but as a
background. I'm just working on the code to place the actual journal in the faded out section... no modules, no graphics behind the date, no additional links... just me and my words. I'm hoping to get rid of that "default" look, but my Xanga knowledge is still minimal at this point... bear with me.
