I personally don't find "chink" to be racist. Unless there was some malicious intent behind them in some way. If one of my white people in my posse called me a chink, I'd call them a hick and get on with it.

They are just jokes, for God's sake, lighten the hell up! Can't you differentiate a joke from a racist joke? Sure, they're aimed to make fun of certain races, but they're meant to be taken light-heartedly, meant to be funny because of these stereotypes. These jokes don't CREATE stereotypes, they use current ones and create humour.

So would you stop being so damned-ass serious about everything? People who truly offend others with racism or discrimination WILL be punished, but these jokes aren't exactly the criteria to follow by. Like Jeff (datru katalyst) said in the other thread, if you really have a problem with a joke, either PM the topic starter or a mod, and request for it to be closed, although frankly, these jokes are not truly racist at all, it is just ethnic/cultural humour, as Frankie said.

It can be funny, depending on the context.

Race, as a social construct, is a part of society, no matter how much people want to deny it. By satirizing it, you help people realize how silly it is. And give a good laugh sometimes.

I don't know. Personally, I found a couple of those offensive and disgusting. I know they are meant to be lighthearted and all that, but I didn't see them in that way. I guess there's no way to stop that.

^ Topics w/ race involved usually include a "Race Used" warning in its title. Authors are decent enough to warn you. If you are offended by them, the warnings are there to tell you to not click, not click and get uppity.

Jokes are light-hearted. Racial jokes are made to break the tension and effectiveness of racism. For me, if I heard someone call me chink, I'd just automatically think back on a joke about chinese people and white people. I'm not as mad that someone called me chink. It makes me laugh inside. Seriously!

I'm comparing the arguments against racial jokes to something similar as fundamental Christians calling Harry Potter the spawn of Satan. (And how America's youth will all turn into lil devils and fly around playing Quiditch or something..) It's rediculous, and truthfully, your efforts should be spent somewhere more meaningful. (Maybe real racism in the real world, rather than against jokes on an online forum.)
