what would you rather be carrying around?

a cd player with a cd that can only hold up to 80 minutes of music. you have to keep buying new batteries for, and the price range can go from 10-200 dollers. or an ipod which can store up to 1,000 songs 4GB for the minis 20 GB for the regular of music storage and has an 8 hour batterly life which the minis cost 240 dollers and come in five different colors or the regular which are white.

who wouldn't want an iPod ? .. mellow.gif
sadolakced acid
i wouldn't want an ipod.

anyways; MP3 CD players can hold 700 minutes of songs (MP3 at 128K) per CD.

noticed you put ipod and mp3 player separate, while they're the smae thing (if you're calling a DAP an mp3 player.)

CD players also have rechargable batteries avalible.
inthemudhole
I'm content with just my CD player.

Well if it's that obvious of a question, why did you even make it a topic? A better topic would've compared iPods to other mp3 players, such as the Nomad Zen or the Archos Gmini. And since when did portable CD players cost 200 bux? The most expensive one I could find was a $130 Hummer-style mp3-CD one.

CD players are inexpensive.. and so are the medium... the price comes at the songs and albums. But most people have downloading software stubborn.gif. so the cost is little more than the player, a stockload of mediocre cd's, and lottsa time in categorizing and organizing cd's.
After all, with a cost of $0.25 per CD (being lenient here) that means you can get 100 cd's for the price of an ipod mini... which is 8000 hours of music... and MUCH more for mp3 cd's which can hold, as sadockle_acid mentioned, 700 minutes of music.

though i must agree the ipods are very modern looking (not necessarily nice =/) and you don't have to change songs biggrin.gif
kandiapplegrl
If you can afford an Ipod why ask that question? Anyhoo, I think Ipods are more convenient. That's a nobrainer.
kokosofly
I'd rather have an iPod or another type of Mp3 player. Much easier to carry around and you can have a large variety of songs.. (I have a Rocbox)
(>")>
Mp3 cuz its like MP4...lol no actually cuz i dont like i pods..they get dirty too easy with their WHITE colors..and the other ones are too bright..
eunie03
I'd choose an iPod... but I don't know. I like the feeling of purchasing CD's and investing in music. I'm like that.
Jorge
^ i totally agree. that's why since i got my ipod i've purchased over 136 cds just because i love music. _smile.gif
kryogenix
where's the casette player option?
BeyondElite
I would rather carry an iPod than any music players, because I can download every music from the internet or in my computer in one compartment without requiring any compact discs or caettes. _smile.gif
pAtRiCk_sTar
i'd prefer an ipod, i guess it's just less of a hassle for me

iPod duhh. But I heard after the batteries are recharged for a certain amount of times, the battery has to replaced for like, $90-$99?

--->So for iPod users, everytime you charge, charge till it's full wink.gif

i have an MP3 player and its smaller then a mini ipod.

oh you're right I felt something was missing in this discussion
william
neither. the ipod really isn't that great of an mp3 player, there are a lot of other ones that completely own it. so, i go with mp3 player.

no...

Ipods are Lithium ions batterys... it doens't matter how you charge it.

it's the heat that kills it; because it allos oxygen to leak into the battery and oxidize it.

just be careful about letting it get too hot.

(P.S. Lith. ions work better if not drained completely.

No, eventually Li-ion batteries will die from charging, though they are stronger than their NiCd and NiMh counterparts and don't have the memory effect. It all has to do with the corrosion of the inside of the battery. It's a fact for all batteries.

IIRC, heat just causes the chemical reaction to go faster, so your battery discharges more than usual.
sadolakced acid
well, yea, it's going to die because the battery isn't completely sealed.

but there's nothing you can do about that; but the heat you can do something about.

and i see no reason to each time drain and charge it completly. this will lower the battery life, as far as i see, because it will heat up the battery more.

You don't have to intentionally discharge the battery since Li-ion has no memory effect, but it's not a bad thing if you're using it and it runs out.
sadolakced acid
well, i was replying to the person who said to charge completly to make your battery last longer.

and they said this because ipod has a 'limited amount of battery charges.'

Since you guys are so knowledgable...

How does the cold affect Lithium ion batteries?
swe3ttemptasian
well I just read it off somewhere about the batteries..when I was researching about the lithium batteries, b/c my friend told me about it. So idunno for sure??

iPod Photo for sure!
heyyfrankie
i would rather carry around a ipod because it is much smaller than a typical cd player but ipods are too expensive. so i guess i should just stick with cd players. laugh.gif

I'm assuming that the reaction will SLOW down, and if it gets too cold, the battery will not produce the proper voltage and the device will turn on.

Putting batteries in the freezer does not help, but store your batteries in slightly lower than room temperature.
Ballpointpencil
I prefer my iPod to my cd players, because you can have a huge range of songs instead of being stuck to one genre until you switch cds (unless you burn a mix cd...).

the iPod is completely over-rated. just look @ the poll!

i go with the mp3 player. compact, sleek, easy-going.

c.d. players - go with rechargeable batteries.
captured_serenity
mp3 player rocks! =)
Azarel
Either/or. I have no real preference for either, since each has its pros and cons.
wayne
why do alot of people put the ipod apart from the rest of hte mp3 players when they make polls like this? an ipod is an mp3 player. people ask me sometimes wuts better an ipod or an mp3 player, or wuts hte difference between the two. an ipod is a mp3 player.

but uhh... answering ur question.. umm... since i have an ipod, i go with the ipod.

definitely iPod

Thats if you are on the warranty, but the battery is supposed to last at least 6 months after the warranty lasts, so youre looking at around 250$ for replacing the battery, unless you do it yourself, which is next to impossible since the Ipod doesnt have any means of opening it, so the average technical impaired person would probably break their ipod anyway.

Get something with a removable battery that can be easily replaced for very little cost if it doesnt hold a charge. Personally I love the Creative Zen Touch. 250$ for a 20gig one that has a 24 hour battery life and an FM radio. I mean, not much more ya need..except maybe the 40 gig one tongue.gif

I would rather carry my mp3/cd player... because I don't like to hold a small, thin ipod around.

also ipod, you need to have to recharge battery. but cd player, you can always buy batteries and carry them with you without needed to plugging it with the cord.

Well ipod is okay too because it holds more than 1,000 or 5,000 songs... but i rather have it on a cd hehe. so you can also listen to it on the stereo.
flyonthewall4590
i like my ipod...but i heard htat since the songs are compressed, a cd player has better quality...oh well...
mistaken_identity
Hmm, yeah I'd like an Ipod but I reckon the size's a bit too big. I don't mean the size of storage, yeah. I'm getting an Ipod shuffle cus it's tiny :)
salcha
iPods are overpriced, and it heard that you need to reacharge it a lot.
i ahve a CD player, but it doesn't work that well, and it's bulky.
i would have to go with MP3
Eryi
i want that color ipod. the ones with colors on the screen. i saw this thing on comercials about an iJOY LOL. a camera and mp3 all in one.
pandamonium
