shouldn't this be in lounge, rather? well, my one suggestion is BE ORIGINAL! if your speech stands out among the rest, you're sure to be elected. also, campaigning (talking personally to your potential "constituents") is very useful-- stickers, posters, pins, and such. take advantage of our generation's existing communication systems. convince people to sport AIM icons supporting you or support you in their profiles! convince people to mention and support you in their xangas! sorry, i'm not good at creating slogans, but if you have a certain theme, it can be very effective. this year, a guy at my school compared himself to other famous leaders and made posters with his face on the leaders' portraits with a slogan underneath like "honest as abe." okay, very lame and corny, but he was elected.
personally, i am very anti-SGA because a) they're elitist well-rounded kids with no passion and b) you have to take the leadership elective in order to be in student gov and i am not wasting a class period for it.

Tell them all the things that you would like to see done in your school. More money needs to be spent on sports, fixing up classrooms, lunches need to be better tasting (or whatever your school needs), and that you're a person that will make all these changes happen. Good luck!

Good luck! don't say all of that if there's nothing that you can even DO about it. in most schools, the students control the students' social issues and affairs only; the school board deals with the administrative stuff.

Include the following things in your speech for improvment
-Your strong characteristics for leading the school
- Your opinion on certain problems in your school
-How you will meet the problems and challenges
-What you will do as the president
~Make sure you are loud and confident when you present.
~Do NOT make promises that you cannot keep, You should be 100% sure you can achieve everything you promise.
~Don't sound boring, enunciate [sp?] and project your voice.
~Make it as short as possible so people won't get bored.
Hope this helps

What does your school tend to like? I remember once the president of our school won by juggling and singing, shouting out her name, and ending. But she was, of course, already pretty experienced in student council so everyone knew she would do a good job.
Don't sound too cocky. It really degrades their impression of you when you say how good you are without any evidence.

be funny.
that's all that matters at my school.
so we have stupid funny people as president
who don't do a good job representing us at the school board
and so; our guy's bathrooms don't have stall doors, don't have soap, the only good bathroom is locked, etc.
