yeah--stanford is NOT an ivy.
my counselor showed me stats from my school last year, and there were a bunch of 1600's with 4.1 GPAs that did not get into an ivy. even with early decision/early action.

not a surprise.. TJ's average alone is almost 1500! (and most of the people @ TJ would probably retake it after getting a 1500)

and as for the ivy rejection thing.. it's because so many kids these days are wrapped up in competition and leadership/test scores that they lack the intellectual passion and curiosity, which is exactly what the nation's top colleges seek.

Feb 28 2005, 06:53 PM
yeah, which is exactly why im so annoyed with my school. im not that smart, im not aiming for a very highly prestegious college, but i cant take any classes that actually interest me- i cant even do IB and take TOK because with only 6 classes theres no room in my schedule, but so im stuck forcing myself to just barely get by in classes i hate, while i could be learning things that im genuinely interested in. i actually learn more during the summer than i do in school, because i seek knowledge in more than just curriculum. school has actually sucked the will out of me

i know people who got a 1550, weren't satisfied, and retook it to get an 1600! crazy.

Seattle Central Community College.
Lots of asians transfer there because this college was in the newspaper. So I guess it's a popular community college to Korean people from Korea.
I also like it there because theres a lot of new instructors especially fashion and art insitute and web-designing. I heard that they are nice, friendly, very good at teaching. So I decided to go there. I would not want to get a very mean, harsh teacher haha.
Also the area is there is nice. Also it's over at downtown! I can get to see space needle a lot hehe.

3)They got all the classes I need/want there (psych, commerce.... just like most other universities)
4)Cheaper cuz i dont hafta travel abroad

Maybe Yale (ha!)
Cause it's close to home, and it's a med. school (i think) which I plan to go to. And I heard it was a good school.
Or unless my grades won't be able to go to yale (which is probably won't), maybe BU or something... =\

Well.. I just want $$$ when I start working... and I figure the prestige could help me get hired. *shrugs*

that's not always true =] choose a school that specializes in your major...which is why it's important to know what your interests are =) if it's known for, say, engineering, then go to that school. you wouldn't go to some liberal arts ivy just for the name if you wanted to study engineering. that doesn't make much sense, does it?

sorry, i didn't mean to pick on you, just trying to say this in general =]

...SATs mean much less than grades, and out of school activities. ask any admissions officer.
finally, someone realizes this ;o
yes, it would be great to have a high score on the sats, but if you've been slacking off for the four years in h.s. do you really think they'll give a damn about your sats? ;o they're looking for "well rounded" people to contribute to the "diversity" in their schools. it's better to be a jack of all trades instead of a master of one thing, in this case... unless you plan to go to a specific college with specific requests (e.g. - juliard).
if you have a 4.0 gpa, and you get a 900 tops on your sats, you'll still get accepted into good schools, with scholarships. yes, some iv leagues are picky about sat scores, but if you show you have something that not a lot of their students have, then they'll consider you.
