i've always done gymnastics since i was 5 years old. (i'm 13 now). i do competition and i've devoted my monday, wednesday, thursday, and friday nights and saturday mornings to the sport. i've always been able to work around my schedule but now that i'm in middle school and i'm a teenager, i kind of want more time for homework, and to hang out with friends, and party, and go out on weekends. i still love gymnastics but it just doesn't seem like i'm getting anywhere. i'm also afraid about gaining weight. going from all that practice to maybe only working out once or twice a week is going to be horrible. i need some advice on what i should do.

You may regret it if you quit... but you also need to have a life of your own. maybe you can just go twice a week and watch your weight-- cutout junk food, pop, etc.

do you enjoy it or not? if you hate spending your time there, spend less. what wrong with going twice a week? you'll stay in shape, not lose your talents, and have some free time.

if i only do 2 days a week....then i won't be able to do competition (which i kind of want to quit). but there's no point in doing the sport if i don't do comepetition. i'd lose all of my muscle and everything and would never move up. i rarely enjoy it.
or maybe i do enjoy it but i always miss out on all the fun because i'm too busy complaining about how much i hate it.
it's hard to explain. i guess i'm just "burned out"

if you enjoy it, I would stay. I loved wrestling when i was little. I got out of it when I was in middle school but now I am in to it more than ever. i think when people get into middle school they grow out of it but then later on the get back into it.

Well since you sound like you love it a lot, stick to it. Think about how much time youve put into it all of these years. if you want more time, maybe you can ask for saturday off?? but dont quit all together.

well don't quit but if you really don't enjoy yourself, don't force it. perhaps just lessen the time you do it or something??

i know how you feel. i love badminton, i still do, but i don't really feel like playing anymore. but i think it's only cuz of our varsity team. i don't really feel like i "belong" so i don't really like it.

a lot of people are saying to lessen the times a week that i do it. the hard thing to understand is that you either have to practice a ton of times a week for competition...or not do it at all. my gym doesn't have a very good recreational program so if i do decide to do it just for fun, i'd have to find a new gym.

Well you can always go back to your favorite sport when you get your interest back. And since you want to lose some pounds. You should eat less, dance hardcore, and exercise.

In a way I kind of know how you feel. I was always involved in dance team in middle school and I have been dancing since I was 3. This year I wanted to try out for the dance team at my school but the team and theatre practice at the same time. Theatre is also one of my passions. Realizing I could only do one, I went with Theatre and could not try out for dance which made me very sad.
At first you'll probably be really sad about having to quit or whatever you choose but eventually you will get used to the change.
If you want more time for homework, then choose Study Hall for one of your electives or bring your homework with you to gymnastics and do it in the car or on breaks (if you get any).
Hope this helps! :D

thanks you guys. 1 thing that i'm considering is finding a good place for recreational so that if i decide that competition really is something that i want to pursue a career with and everything and do it in college, then i can always go back to it. i realized that it's still one of my passions and i should keep going with it but maybe take it a bit less seriously since i'm struggling so much.
how does that sound?

if it's something that you really enjoy you should always stick with it, otherwise you'll regret quiting
