k, my cds came ("self-titled" by volcano, i'm still excited!! and "fabulous muscles" by xiu xiu) and they're both great. "self-titled" is stronger as a whole ("fabulous muscles" is actually a little disappointing- i only love the first three songs), but "i luv the valley, OH!" on the latter cd is so freaking amazing. go download it. i've listened to it 15+ times already in about an hour and half.

edit: i had a second listen of "fabulous muscles" and it's actually all pretty damn good, just not great background music.

the fuzzblossoms are great. but theyre local, and havent even started selling their cds yet, since the cover art had issues with making copies, but theyre still great
william
even though it's not what i usually listen to, i'm in love with "city calm down" by architecture in helsinki.
sammi rules you
anyone have some particularly good underground new wave reccommendations?..i'm in the mood for something new.
Xerohedra
How do you get underground bands if they're not heard anywhere?
StanleyThePanda
To Sammi: Enter Shikari is really good.... or I think so, and they are new wave

they're not "not heard anywhere", they're just... not as heard as much. i'm an amazon/limewire/audioscrobbler/myspace whore, so that's how i find out about most of the stuff i listen to.
rockstermonkey
Recently, I have been OBSESSED with architecture in helsinki, Ratatat, and The Fiery Furnaces. Anybody listen?
william
^ seeing as i've mentioned a.i.h. about three times in this thread, yes, i like them a lot. i've given the fiery furnaces a couple of listens, and i still don't understand why there's all this buzz around them.. i'll have to download a few more of their songs.
pinkd0tcom
would Daphne Loves Derby be considered underground? Ahh.. sweet sadness. cry.gif

Vocals sort of remind me of Conor Oberst.

fierysky1453
From Bubblegum to Sky. Oranger. Blue-Eyed Son. Clear Static. Mynx. Eiffel Tower. Irving.

They're all pretty good "underground" bands.
StanleyThePanda

oh youre ,right, they are a bit similar. i dont like the music as much, though. however, the longer i listen, the more i like it.

the arcade fire has been getting a lot of attention lately
william
^ the arcade fire has been getting a lot of attention since their cd came out. i bought it in january, and it's good, but i'm not really in love with them. i get what you're saying though, they were on the "all things indie" videos on mtv.com (pathetic on mtv's part i know, i laughed when i saw they had a section called that).
rockstermonkey
I think the arcade fire album is actually one of the most solid albums I have heard in some time. I also picked up their album before "funeral", "us kids now". And while it is not as great as "funeral", there are great tracks on there such as "headlights looks like diamonds" and "no cars go"

I really liked "Hello Hello Hi" (FBTS) and "I'm So LA" (Mynx) six months ago.

Both of them bring back memories. Hah.

The only song I listened to was "Good Bye Forever", and judging from that one song, their style reminds me a little of Linkin Park's. mellow.gif

Er.. I can't say I was too impressed.

there's a lot of underground bands that i love.

in no particular order:

this providence
forgive durden
elite stranger
the turnout
oceans in oblivion
gatsbys american dream
daphne loves derby
hawthorn
this day and age
blane
my american dream
acceptance
the weakend
ewi

i like too much. i'm more into them them the mainstream bands. especially their shows ah theyre the best.
jordanriane
Gatsby's American Dream, Acceptence are pretty popular, not so much underground.

When you said "Blane," did you mean.. Bane?
If not, then ignore.
nightsong
God, I've missed this thread.

A few bands:
- Learning by Braille
- From Bubblegum to Sky (Though already mentioned.. Listen to "Hello Hello Hi")
- Mister Metaphor (I think they broke up? Someone help confirm this?)
- The High Speed Scene (Reminds me of Weezer huh.gif)

xo, Pauline

has moneen been mentioned? i'm not a huge fan, but they're probably my favorite math rock band that i've heard. "are we really happy with who we are right now?" is kind of cheesy and sounds too much like taking but sunday, but it's so damn catchy.
rockstermonkey
mhm. I have heard a couple of Moneen's tracks. Not all that impressive, although I rather like "Pleasantly Saying The". In terms of math rock, I rather like Faraquet. "The View From This Tower" was an amazing album.
not_your_average

the postal service
death cab for cutie

freanz ferdinand

the crossed out ones are really not underground. the ones i didnt cross out i either havent heard of, because i deal more in bands than singers, or are a bit more underground. but geez, weezer?!
not_your_average
i don't know much about underground music. it's a bit confusing. one minute, the band/artist is completely obscure, the next thing you know, MTV is pimpin' them all over the place. i don't why the hell i put weezer on that list. blink.gif

Rilo Kiley isnt either.

I saw them on Fuse the other day.....
tweeak
i know theyre not, but theyre slightly more than the others...yeah, i dont know. i had them crossed out initially, then i took them off, because i had basically the entire list with the exception of about 4
Kathleen
Lately, I've fallen in love with I Am Ghost (I made a topic on here, but it died), My Eyes Darken, Emma, and One From Yourself. throb.gif

pauline recommened "plastic stars" by them awhile back. they're pretty good, but some of their songs sound almost... too retro for my liking.

Those are definitely not "lesser known" bands, especially Jack's Mannequin.
