k, my cds came ("self-titled" by volcano, i'm still excited!! and "fabulous muscles" by xiu xiu) and they're both great. "self-titled" is stronger as a whole ("fabulous muscles" is actually a little disappointing- i only love the first three songs), but "i luv the valley, OH!" on the latter cd is so freaking amazing. go download it. i've listened to it 15+ times already in about an hour and half.
edit: i had a second listen of "fabulous muscles" and it's actually all pretty damn good, just not great background music.

they're not "not heard anywhere", they're just... not as heard as much. i'm an amazon/limewire/audioscrobbler/myspace whore, so that's how i find out about most of the stuff i listen to.

^ seeing as i've mentioned a.i.h. about three times in this thread, yes, i like them a lot. i've given the fiery furnaces a couple of listens, and i still don't understand why there's all this buzz around them.. i'll have to download a few more of their songs.

^ the arcade fire has been getting a lot of attention since their cd came out. i bought it in january, and it's good, but i'm not really in love with them. i get what you're saying though, they were on the "all things indie" videos on mtv.com (pathetic on mtv's part i know, i laughed when i saw they had a section called that).
rockstermonkey
May 13 2005, 06:51 PM
I think the arcade fire album is actually one of the most solid albums I have heard in some time. I also picked up their album before "funeral", "us kids now". And while it is not as great as "funeral", there are great tracks on there such as "headlights looks like diamonds" and "no cars go"

The only song I listened to was "Good Bye Forever", and judging from that one song, their style reminds me a little of Linkin Park's.

Er.. I can't say I was too impressed.

has moneen been mentioned? i'm not a huge fan, but they're probably my favorite math rock band that i've heard. "are we really happy with who we are right now?" is kind of cheesy and sounds too much like taking but sunday, but it's so damn catchy.
rockstermonkey
May 18 2005, 04:32 PM
mhm. I have heard a couple of Moneen's tracks. Not all that impressive, although I rather like "Pleasantly Saying The". In terms of math rock, I rather like Faraquet. "The View From This Tower" was an amazing album.

the crossed out ones are really not underground. the ones i didnt cross out i either havent heard of, because i deal more in bands than singers, or are a bit more underground. but geez, weezer?!

i don't know much about underground music. it's a bit confusing. one minute, the band/artist is completely obscure, the next thing you know, MTV is pimpin' them all over the place. i don't why the hell i put weezer on that list.
