What age do you guys think people should start dating?

I've seen so many youg kids like 5th and 6th grade having a lot of boyfriends and becoming obsessed with boys and all that. I was talking to this one girl online, because she wanted me to make her an icon for AIM and it had to do with a boy and over the couse of about 4 days I've done one for 3 different boys and she's 12 years old, so I guess 6th or 7th grade? She tells me all of them. She says something like we broke up. I sad aww I'm sorry or something and she's like oh but it's ok I got another one. So it's like you don't actually love the person or really care, so why do it. I think kids should start like serious dating in high school. The youngest I think kids should date is maybe 8th grade depending on how mature you are...whats your opinion?

If ther's already a topic on it sorry.

I love your Dom signature!

I tottaly agree! Sometimes i think your parents are right. Because if your only 'going out' with someone because hes popular or just because he asked you, i think its stupid. I put going out in quotes because I dont really think anyone really goes out (im in 8th grade by the way), a few more serious couples do, but most people i just dont get why they are going out with anyone.
youdrivinmegrapes
yeah I agree..thank you lol

I can't stop the age that people start dating, but mostly I don't think people start having really serious realtionships until maybe 8th grade....However it's good for you to date before that even if it's not serious so you know people you enjoy being with, and people that you would like to be in a commited relationship with!
OriskybusinessO
Thats true, but i dont think many middle schoolers are thinking about committed relationships...
youdrivinmegrapes
yeah that is the one plus to it...we were talking about that last year in school, but like when kids act all "Omg I love him" and then they break up and have another boy the next day. That's pointless I think. wink.gif
ChellyDasWassup
well u said serious n da girl u conversate w/ is just messing around having fun n breaking hearts lol...nothing to be taken seriously she is too young to fall in love...but u cant fight love...but neway 6th graders shouldn't take dating seriously...but by da time u in h.s u should be more mature about it...just my opinion
OriskybusinessO
Yea, I mean people are always talking about how 'ooh we've been going out for 2 weeks i think its pretty serious' yea right!
youdrivinmegrapes
^^haha yeah I know...kids at that age don't know true love, well some might, but it's rare. They should still be having fun being a kid, not worrying about oh he loves me we're serious and all that

i think ppl should start dating when u think u really really~ LOVE someone, like u can't leave that person, and like if that person dies then u want to die also.

that should be at least 8th grade. happy.gif

i want a boyfriend too~ i mean someone really really cares about me and really really love me. all the guys i like are nice to me, but i don't think they LOVE me. im still looking for a true love~~~
OriskybusinessO
Such as Lloyd Dobler? Me too...

exactly right
xj_liana_tx
everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but i think it's appropriate whenever a person has matured or knows enough about responsibility to do so.
_sarcastic_
well i guess some ppl just wants a bf, for the sake of having one

that's what it seems like they do...and yeah when they do reach that maturity level it's fine, like I said sometimes young kids do realize true love, but not many. They're too immature and don't understand.

agreed. but yeah...at least i think in the teenage years...preteen seems a bit...young.
xsweetxcandyx
they just want to hook up so they can say.. "o yea, I dated him back in 7th grade" when they're like in high school. PLus to them dating is the best way to earn "popularity points"
Heewee
Honestly, I don't think that we're capable of having a meaningful relationship until the later part of high school or even after that. However, there are exceptions because people mature at different rates. If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend in middle school or below, then most likely, it's just to have one or because they're the crush of the week...not because you see a future with them.
tresa1992
Yeah, I agree with you.

I regret dating the two guys I dated in 6th grade, I'm in 7th now.

I realized that when I dated them, it wasn't a serious sort of thing.

I now realize that I don't want to date just because I can.
SandRAWRz
any age...but i think High school is when you are a little more serious
lovescream
Well, it's their choice. In 4th grade here, people statred dating. stubborn.gif
My first bf was at the age of 11. 6th grade. We broke up a while back.. but yeah, aren't like all girls, no matter what age, obsessed with guys? I mean.. when hormones start kicking in.. guys are hot. dribble.gif

I'm obsessed with my crush. wub.gif

( i already got my pd =) so... but i think it really depends if ur mature enough to be wit someone u like. n lil kid thinks dey're so popular just becuz dey got a bf, or gf. dey're so retarded when dey think it like dat. u dun make urself popular when someone likes u. u only feel happy for urself becuz u got ppl attracted to u. =D dats a good ding !!! laugh.gif bbbut !! ppl i mean ppl really start to get "obsessed" wit gurls/guys when u start developing.. yawn.gif

WHAT did you say..? gosh.. i didn't understand a word you said.. =//
ThePrincessofTKD
i think it depends on level of maturity & common sense.
dani41790
i kinda get annoyed when kids that age like start having bfs or gfs and act like its serious or something. i think 8th grade is good or atleast 13.
FLIPxADDICTION
yeah 13, seems mature enough. i remember kids having boyfriends/girlfriends at age 9-10 i mean can you even go on dates or anything?
Wishful_Dream
ughh i'm in eight grade.. i noticed that most of the couples they talk about the future like, "we're going to get married.. our pre-promise ring.." and junk.. it really scares me...
chongmaggie007
Well ~ People start dating in such a young age is quite a tragedy ( to me ) ~ I don't know... I mean they will not take it seriously, and do not really understand the true meaning of dating...
To me, I think people should start dating only when they are 16...
Maybe it is a a-bit-too-old thought... But that's how I feel

yes..I knew a fourth grade boy who dated this girl in 6th grade, I was in her class too so yeah 6th grade. I think that was weird and too young...of course girls are obsessed with guys, but that doesn't mean that we have to go out with all of them when we're like 10 years old.

When we were in 8th grade my this one kid went out with my friend and he started getting like that with her. Weird...She broke up with him because she wanted to just be a kid and have fun, not being serious with that kind of stuff...she did the right thing biggrin.gif

I agree with this, but I don't think you should really put a specific age on it because some girls mature faster than others. In other words, for not so serious relationships, when the girl acts like she's thirteen she is ready and when she acts like she is 16 she is ready for a more serious relationship.
mishyerr
I meant 13 as a generalization.. like that age where your hormones are all freakin out on you and you just wanna LOOVEEEE someone. ;D

And drivers liscense age because it's so hard to date when you can NOT drive.. I mean, who's gonna take you out? Your parents?

Finally a comment I agree with. When you're in high school I think you are of age to start dating. Middle School/Junior High and Grade school are WAY too young in my opinion. Kids get carried away with it, and believe that they are old enough to do anything. They take the relationship too seriously and believe that this boy/girl friend will be with them forever, and do things that they will regret later on in life.

At least when you are in high school, most people have their head on straighter than when you were 11. Plus if you happen to have sex, you won't be too young compared to getting pregnant when you're 11. It's just common sense. Kids are growing up too fast these days in my opinion, and I think it's such a shame. Enjoy your childhood, you only get one. Don't grow up too fast because there will be nothing to look forward to when you are older.
iheartsimba
I don't think age really maters, more maturity level
lilJdawg
Hm. same. i had my first boyfriend in the 7th grade but yeah. i guess your right.
lady_karamelle
u know, when I was in elementary school, we all had boyfriends, but like, we never even kissed them. it was basically I like you you like me yay we're together. we never "went out" or actually dated or anything. the most we did was b-day parties. so I mean, thats the age for girls to realise boys dont have cooties. and its also a confidence boost. a girl who has a boy who likes her, feels accepted. easy as that...
Just_Dream
I didn't start officially dating until I was in 8th grade. I was 13 at the time when I had my first official boyfriend lol.

I can't really say what age someone should have a boyfriend but I would say 13... but that's just my preference.

i think dating is apporiate for ages 16 and up, because that's when you start to realize how mature your getting and the guys aren't. =) heehee...

OMG I KNEW THIS KID LIKE THAT!! He's in 8th grade now, really long story, but he still plays with yugioh and digimon and he seriously believes that one day when his mother was cooking eggs in a frying pan, he was cracked out of one of those eggs, seriously no lie this kids crazy. His friends like that too but not as bad as him...Yeah I don't think kids should date until they're in high school either. Like you ppl saud, they don't actually go out anywhere they just use the term "going out" its kinda stupid I think mellow.gif happy.gif
angelrevelation
yea its so annoying how kids as young as like 10 start getting obsessed with the opposite sex (usually seems to be girls but...)

i think an appropriate age is about 9th or 10th grade, because you're just so much more mature (usually) and are more... yourself. you know what and (hopefully) are comfortable with what your beliefs, self image, and just who you are. this makes people see each other for who thy really are, and then can have easier and better relationships and understandings.

end of speech lol innocent.gif
