Any chance someone knows how to get rid of the ugly search bar at the top of the page??

What do you mean "have an image big enough"? A background image? Do you have an example?

to get ride of it you just have to make the divs you put your content on z-index: 2 and it'll go over the top of the blogger bar.

You can just select no search bar.

but xanga has ads.

its just a replacement of blogger ads,
just deal with it.
