philippines is part of asia.. but then.. when people say asians.. most of the time, they refer to the chinese or japanese.
i'm also filipino. but i live in a pacific island. and i should know the difference.

WTF Philippines is a part of the continent, Asia. I have studied that back in my Social over there..

Ahem, besides... Philippines is also like a melting pot (very much like America!) and many asian countries around it got to it by crossing a thick ice bridge.. kind of like what happened with the Native Americans from near Russia and Alaska.. and that's how they go all the way in the United States.

Also, Pacific Islander, from what I was taught, are the islands in the Pacifc..

dude, flips are indeed asians. if you think filipinos are pacific islanders, then think again, 'cause if you think we are pacific islanders, then you should learn the right way. if we are pacific islanders, as some people would say, then vietnam, malaysia, indonesia, thailand, singapore, and some other asian countries in the Southeast Pacific of Asia are considered pacific islanders too! you just can't say flips are pacific islanders while all those other countries I listed above are considered asians, duh, they are in the same continent as of the Philippines, called Southeast Asia, near each other, they are called asians, what's the difference between them and the Philippines then? if some people doesn't even know the difference between then and than, then tell me how the hell would you know the difference between countries in a continent if you can't even tell the difference between the words ( then and than! hahaha people use them opposites, just wrong grammar )? if you studied, you would know it, but if you just think about it and decide, just because of some stupid islands surrounding them then you would most probably have your facts mixed up!



by the way, Pacific Islanders are Samoans and some others around them. this is a stupid question and some flips are just plain dumb!

oh yea FILIPINOS are uinique... we are the only CHRISTIANS in asia but ithink christians had spread around in ASIA..

we got spanish last names, coz those spaniards conquered us, then the JAPS, then US took over and gave us independece, and we are not a country

Last time I checked, "Pacific Islander" isn't considered a continent. Filipinos are asians. I think people are getting two words confused, Oriental and Asian. Many people say that Indians are not Asian, although they are a part of Asia. They are asian, they are just not oriental. I really think this "catergorizing" is completely Bullsh*t. It's completely not necessary, it just adds confusion and promotes stereotyping.

Exactly why this thread irks me.

I mean, I encounter a lot of people all the time who have this misconception of who's Asian and who's not but these are people of non-Asian descent so I guess I can't blame them entirely for being confused.

But for people of Asian backgrounds to be so ignorant about their OWN race....

Granted, they've been ruled by Spaniards and then Americans since God knows when, but saying that that makes them Spanish/American is like saying that Palestinians are Israelis or Kurds are Iraqis.

flips are asian but a different type....really we are like our own race...because i was taking a test and it said the normal things like Caucasian, African-American, etc, but there was a bubble to bubble in Filipino! I was like woah! Exciting!

umm whoever said that your flipino/asian because you have natural black hair is wrong. Your not judged on your nationality by your looks. Thats just stupid. What if you were an albino filipino? does that mean your not filipino anymore? well getting back to the topic yes we are asians. and that anonymous person who said we're just 'Asian Posers' is stupid, the Phillipines is part of the country Asia so therefore we are asian. we may be a little far from the main land but yes the Phillipines does belong to the continent asia. and that person who commented on your xanga really needs to look at a map...ps this is a really old topic, isnt it?

I guess we're Asians cusp we're on the Asian continent. But i prefer Pacific Islander because people misjudge us all the time.
