i think that if you are from the philipines, you are philipino! not asian.

well it's like "are indian people asian?" if they reside in an area that is considered asia, then they are technically asian even though some people might not consider them to be.

people from india that are around asia on the southwest are considered asians also i dont see why we should be left out.

I only say that filipinos aren't asian to piss off this guy in the chatroom, because he's overly obsessed with asians, and he's filipino. =x

Filipinos are filipinos nothing else. If you have notice alot of the race identifiers have filipinos seperate but, Pacific Islander and Asian are acceptable

I think most people would think IRAQ is a Middle Eastern coutry.. It may be part of the continent asia but thats it...

ahhh yes I consider Flips to be asian... mainly because most look asian! But most Flips are Catholic right? And for some reason I've always thought they had very interesting/cool names... sounds like hispanic names many times. Especially the last names. I always thought that Fillipino culture seemed more like Hispanic. The language, food, religion, names...

While it is a Middle Eastern country, the Middle East isn't a continent.

All of those countries (except for Egypt) are on the continent of Asia. So if an Iraqi wanted to call himself Asian, he could.

Filipinas are South East Asian. They definitely look more Oriental like those of Thailand, cambodia and Burma than pacific islanders such as Polynesians and moari peoples

I believe we are Asian... Geographically I mean...the Southeast ASIAN Treaty Organization was based in the Philippines, it is a member of the Association of Southeast ASIAN Nations, Manila will be playing host for this year's Southeast ASIAN Games, etc., etc.

Think back to the days of lapu lapu. he wore grass skirts, and g strings. no silk kungfu garments. my ancestors didn't wear rice hats. i dont use chopsticks. my eyes aren't slanty. my last name is fernandez not pang. i am an island boy.

Russia took over territory in Asia. Thats doesn't mean Russia is a part of Asia, it only means that part of Asia became part of Russia.

Anyway, I think ... if the spanish didn't come and take over the Philippines, the Philippines would be like most asian countries because a lot of asian people had inhabited the Philippines even before the Spanish came. These people came to the Philippines through ice bridges.

Also it doesn't really matter if he wore grass skirts or not - because we live in the same climate of those polynesia and micronesia and etc. thus we would wear the same clothing. But also, you can't label races/nationalities by what they wear.

Just because Filipinos don't have the small eyes doesn't mean that they aren't Asian. People often generalize that what makes you Asian are your eyes. That is not necessarily true. Look at Indians. India is part of Asia. They don't have the chinky eyes. Please realize that Asia is not just full of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese people. I am Filipino myself. To erase any confusion, I just consider myself as a Pacific Islander. Although, I do know that I am Asian because the Philippine Islands are in the continent Asia. Our ancestors were mostly from Malaysian descent. (again, not many Malaysians have chinky eyes although they are in fact, Asian.) We acquired our Spanish surnames when the Spaniards colonized the Philippines. We also got our primary religion, Catholicism, from the Spaniards. Before they colonized, we were mostly of Malay-Polynesian dialect. Think about it. Here's an example. In Tagalog, eye is mata. In Hawaiian, it is maka. In Tongan/Samoan, it is mata. But also, in Tagalog, shoe is sapato. In Spanish, shoe is also sapato.
