i dunno, because if i get a new comp im gonna take my ATI radeon 9200 video card out of this comp, but if i got a laptop im free to go where ever, what would you prefer?

get a desktop if:
>u wanna do a lot of work.. its easier to sit down

get a laptop if:
>u wanna go around ur house just like lookin at sites

its easier to do stuff on a desktop by far in my opinion.. typing, webdesigning

laptop = portable. u can use the bathroom and still be on the comp. XD

hehehe i guess, its pretty much gonna be for photoshop, so i can be in my fricken room and i can lie down..... and preaty much diablo 2 and the old games, so i dont really gotta worry about the graphics yet.... yeh and i got half life 2, and my curent comp thers something wrong with it, i mean i meat the reccomended requirements but dunno it just freezes up >_< ahah so what brand of laptop is reliable,? lole hp , dell, sony? thx for the input

I think a computer is better cuz laptops have less features... usually.

I think desktops are better, IMO.. I used to have a laptop and it wasn't that great

i like computers better, because they have more features and you get more for your money, plus it just seems more secure to have a computer at home instead of carrying it around everwhere. and the laptop has the annoying lil mouse thing that is hard to move. But if you travel alot and need your computer with you then get a laptop, but if you just stay at home, then get a computer

Okay... If you get a laptop: I would say Dell, Toshiba, or Sony.

Dell and custom built desktops are the best way to go. Your not paying for all of that retail that BestBuy or CompUsa would add on.

if get a desktop.... i was building it on TigreDirect..... but if i get a laptop im going to buy one from the navy exchange....... all i do now is update my xanga, messing around with photoshop and chatting.... bleh thanks for the input i aint too sure what imma get yet...

Labtops because it can be wireless and you can use it anywhere you want to =) indoors/outdoors which os great

id choose the desktop cause. i think it can withstand more things.. unfortuantely its not portable... i use a lot of photoshop and i want really fast connection.

desktops are better. i could probably melt a labtop in a day judging by how much i use the computer.

desktop ;o faster, more space... portability's not really an issue for me since there's computers at school if i really needed something... and i don't need to be surfing the web while i'm at the bathroom, so yah :X

Depends on what you're going for, low price, high power, definatly a desktop but if you want the portability then of course laptops are the way to go. Unless of course you want portable power at a reasonable price (lanparties) then you want SFF (small form factor) such as shuttle and what not.

Laptops don't have to cost all that much, if you wait you can get them for cheap, say $499 after rebates. Many times you can't even get a very good desktop for that much, though a desktop will also be much better for expansion and for gaming and what not. If money wasn't an issue, I'd totally go for a laptop, see alienware. Their new line of laptops feature 2 optical drives, 2 harddrives, Nvidia-go 6800, up to 4 gb RAM and 17" screens, these puppies are less than 2 inches think and weigh something like 9lbs. Or you could go for Dell's 9200 line of inspiron notebooks which are also supposed to be very good.

But there really is no way to directly compare a desktop to a notebook. It all depends on what you need.

I like using the computer better because it is easier to use because I hate the annoying built-in mouse on the laptops, since it's harder for me to control. And because I have more control using the computer mouses than the one in the laptop when I am using Photoshop and other stuff.

You could always plug a mouse into the laptop...

heh woops yeah it should say desktop vs laptop... my bad... doesent matter the cost, aslong as i have half of whatever my parents are gonna cover the rest, and i get paied like $12 an hour when i help my dad out which is about 8 hours or so, so yeah alienware comps are cool and stuff but i donno if im gonna be much of a gamer as i used to ....

Can you build a computer? If so, please reply saying so, because I can configure a system or two so that you know what you can get for the price if you build it. I'd also recommend Dell if you're not sure about building it.

A good custom built computer can cost around $600-$800. Then for the monitor, if you want an LCD, your adding about $300. So we're talking around $1,000-$1,200. In which, looking at your salary, if you've been working for a while, seems like a reasonable price for you to afford. Let me add the Specs.

If you don't play games any video card should be fine. If you want great graphics for a cheap price I suggest the Nvidea FX5200. If you want an even better video card I would suggest the ATI Radeon 9800Pro.

Don't feel dumbfounded about the price. If I wanted I could build one for A LOT cheaper. I just configured a good one. Feel free to PM me about system configurations and whatnot.

i like my laptop since it's portable and small =) but if you plan on doing a LOT of comp work, then get a desktop. i do webdesigning and photoshop a lot, but i still do them on my laptop (:

I love Computers better---because they are connected to the printers, scanners, and louder speaker box.

I don't like Laptops---because you have to recharge its own batteries and when you're done with your word documents, you use the floppy disk and use the printer by putting your floppy disk to your computer hardrive.

yes i can build a computer, i was just looking at cases the the other day, i found at comp usa... its about $200 for a barebone on tigerdirect, hmm u can print things from ur laptop if u have the right software and hardware....

uh.. u can print things from laptops! lol especially since a lot of new ones are using usb! and silentdt, please link me to the barebones... some of them are ok but they screw you in some ways.

Then you connect another keyboard to it, shesh, what's wrong with people these days. Saying something sucks because of one componant. Seriously, if you are going to just base all your statements off of one generalized statement, then you aren't going to get very far in life.

And it's a laptop not a labtop. It goes on your lap since not many people have Labs. Many laptops come with full size keyboards so that isn't much of an issue, especially if your talking desktop replacements. But I'm guessing you don't like the key pitch and how most of the keys can only be depressed a fraction of what a normal keyboard can do.
