Hugging isn't a big deal (though very nice when shared with someone you love). I hug people all the time, male and female. Just give him a hug sometime. You can start off with just a one-armed hug if you feel more comfortable that way. Don't have to start off by throwing yourself at him and squeezing him until he runs out of air. ;)
