i was thinking a hockey stick, but his friend told me he already has two really good ones. getting him cds or something would be really unpersonal.

so basically those two are ruled out

A poster of his favorite hockey player or of his favorite band would be kewl. A simple car would work for me. Perhaps make him a cupon book with a bunch of stuff you'll give him in the future like a massage, dinner, and stuff like that.
