The Neverending Race

Right foot, Left foot
repeat the cycle
sprinting down this great big loop
Up and Down
i'll beat the tickings
i'm ahead of this whole group
eyes are focused
mind is reeling
heart is steady, keeping pace
gotta keep going
gotta keep striving
i'm running this never-ending race

one foot forward,
drop back two miles,
i'm running on slick oil
i can't move
my foot's on idle
i'm running with chained coils
i'm determined
so motivated
i move forward with great haste
i get dragged back
my foot will stumble
i'm running this never-ending race

slowing down,
i see my foe
i see her mocking smile
i try to hurry,
quicken my steps
but then i lag a mile
i keep going
reaching for the end
there's a hard look on my face
i can't go farther
i just can't do it
i'm running this never ending race

there it is
i see it now
i'm almost at the finish line
reaching out
i long to touch it
i long the gold cup to be mine
i've touched the line,
but it bounds back
my fingerprints erased,
it's too far now,
but it beckons me
to finish this neverending race.

wow i love this poem.. it reminds me of my life =P

The quick pacing and rhythm really go well with the poems theme of a 'race'
