They're 'hott' because they usually care about their appearance more than straight guys. I mean, think about it this way. Would, upon first glance, a guy decide the frazzeled girl is hott, or would it be the one who actually dressed nice and cared about her appearance? The one who cares.
Male-mentality makes them want (usually) the girls who care, subconsciously realising that that means that they'll probably invest more time and love into other activities... Just because someone's gay doesn't usually change that... Guys will still chose the nicer-looking person....
