My boyfriend and I aren't the same age... (I'm not going to tell the difference) And a lot of people seem to think that if you're more than 3 or 4 years appart, that you can't ever be truly happy.
What are your thoughts? Think it really matters? Or is age just a mindset?

I personally don't think it matters too much.
Unless you're 15 and they're 20.
Then yes.. it would matter a bit.
It's better if you're 20 and they're 25..
It matters sometimes, but I don't think it should matter a lot.. unless the two are really far apart.

age doesn't really matter, unless it's something extreme, or illegal (like if you're underage and he's 18+)

i went out with a guy who was 16 when i was 13. i don't think it's that big of a deal, but like, 16 and 12 would be a bigger difference..it's not like the age is a problem, but 12 year olds should not be going out with 16 year olds, maturity wise.

I agree.. i think it has more to do with maturity and where you are in your age that matters.

its not necessarily true that you cant ever be happy
it depends how much you like the guy..you can always make things work
i personally prefer not to date a guy more than 3 or 4 years older than me

age doesn't really matter unless if you were like 20 dating someone 60-up just for something they have. i think that as an adult age difference doesn't become a concern but when where young like around the teens its starts to become something we think about more

Ages dont matter. If you guys love each others, it's not a big problem.
It is if the guy is like 40 and ur 16 o____O

Okay...
Like, for example, if you're 9 and you're dating a 14 yr. old, it's a HUGE difference if you know what I mean. But if you're 2o and the guy is 25, it doesn't really seem to make that much of a difference. Anyways, I don't think that made sense

course age matters, if yer in middle school and yer datin some girl in 11th grade, you'd be considered a pimp kinda but then ppl would make fun of her and you probably wouldn't like that and u can't do anything about it...same thing if u date a guy in 11th grade

Actually if you were a girl in 8th and dated a junior youd be considered a whore.

Age is not a matter! In all of my relationships, I've always been the youngest by a year. I'm 17. Now I'm in a LTR with someone much older than I am. I am very happy. Age is an issue if you make it one. "10" year difference. No worries. All is full of love.

*chuckles* After reading all of these, it seems like the general concensus by those who've replied (not the poll) seem to think that while age is sometimes a factor, what's really more important are the feelings.
This is, pretty much, my stance and opinion.
To those of you who seem to hold the "only 1 year difference at most!" stance, just remember that by your own conviction(s), you're limiting yourself severly. I'm not saying that everyone should be dating people who are old enough to be their parents. Just... Follow your heart. It's hardly ever wrong.

3 to 4 years is okay and stuff but its good as long as ya got the maturity level and stuff... it cant be a litle kid with a 4th grade mind and a highschoo junior
WildGriffin
Sep 5 2004, 01:13 PM
No dateing till 13. Maximum difference of 4 years until 18.
That's my stance. Right now, I'm going out with a 15 year old..and I'm 17. It's all gravy, she's extremly mature and im...uh...im not. So we're the same on the maturity scale..which is all that really matters.
I couldnt take advantage of her even if i tried..which is the situation every girl should be in.

Age DOES matter, but I say no more than 5 years apart. I mean, if you're still a minor, the significant other shouldn't be more than 5 years, but 5 years is a big difference. Persoanlly, I wouldn't trust any guys older than me if I dated one. IF i was single, I would only date someone about 2 years older, that's it. # years is okay, but 4 years is a little extreme. It seems a little desperate too, if a guy dates someone that is 4 years younger than them.
There was this guy, he was 14 and he dated this girl who was I think, 8 or 10. I mean, WTH?! They never did anything, just hang out. And all she did was give him a hug. But I mean, that's a little.. Bleh -_-

well rite now for us it will c weird for like a 13 year old going with a 16 year old u noe?!?!?! cuz like diff skools and everything but wen u r older like lets say 30 and 33 it dont rillt matter haha hope u guys got that

i voted for no.. but i do believe that it would matter after a certain limit.. and what age the person is at in the first place.. like if a 30 year old guy dates a 17 year old girl.. that would be wrong.. but a 35 year old dating a 25 year old would be better.. i guess.. but doesnt matter what neone says.. if the people are actually in love and not in the relationship for any other reason except for the sake of being together.. then "who cares what neone else thinks?" as long as u dont mind.. and find it a problem
