I'll use Mike's signature as an example:


Kind of like an inky.. goey look?

I have a bunch of idea's that involve this but I have NO clue on how to do it!

It's from an upcomming video game "Epic Mickey"

what the others are saying is true. Anything can look this way with proper 3d-ish rendering. Highlights, midtones, and shadows is how you make something 2d appear 3d.

You just have to go about it the right way, and be appreciative of his help, at least from what I've seen. A lot of people he's helped in the RC don't give a simple "thank you" after he tries his best to guide them.

Anyway, Googling "how to make ink/something look 3D" might be better? Just change the search phrase around until you get what you want. YouTube might be even better for finding nice video tutorials.
