Watch the iPhone OS 4 Keynote

So most of the rumors have been confirmed and as of April 8, Apple hosted a keynote for the newly created 4.0 firmware for iPhone and iPod touch. The new firmware will include 100+ user features and developers will recieve 1500 new APIs and a new feature that apple has made for developers specifically and that new feature is called iAd. iAd is what developers will use to make advertisements for their apps and will have interactivity and "emotions" apple says. There is also an improvement to Enterprises including more features and enhancements for business.

The beta for iPhone 4.0 is out now, and it is available at developer.apple.com, but in order to get the beta, you must be a developer.

im pretty sure that Apple got a hold of a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch and got all the customizations that actually make the iPhone better, and say "we re adding this to iPhone 4.0 as our own".


how come? its finally getting what it was supposed to/shouldve had in 3.0..

I think it looks sleeker but less unique now. I've seen other phones that look like the new iPhone.

Mostly because I don't really see the point of devices like the iPhone, I'm sick of reading about them all the time, and I wish some of the development/improvement efforts were more focused on the Mac itself, rather than a tiny, low-power device.

how come apple always have to come out with an updated version of previous versions.. can't it wait for like a couple years? or even just one year? the iphone 3gs didn't come till recently didn't it? and now they came out with the ipad? jeez apple, i know you're trying to make money, but i think you already made enough for now. some people don't even have the old iphones, so how will they ever know that the new version is better? i feel that iphones will always be updated every 6 months or so, and that people will keep buying them. then what happens to all the old ones?

same here. i like how they went with the squared (flat) back. it gives for a easier grip when holding it.

The Individual buttons on the side (Mute & Volume) are rumored to be integrated into the Camera.app for shutter buttons.

I'm PISSED OFF that the multitasking feature won't work for iPhone 3G. If you KNOW it's going to be able to work, DON'T SELL THE DAMN TECHNOLOGY. I just bought my iPhone 3 weeks ago and I'm f*cking pissed. Is this just another Apple tactic to get people to upgrade?

Anyone know of editing the plist code? If so, does the phone have to be jailbroken? :/ Cause if look see here, you can change the plist code. I'm SURE it's not as simple as that, but worth a try?

And to the pictures of the updated phone: ... seriously? It's less.. rounded. I like round. I like stylish, now this looks less unique and quite similar to other phones. BOO APPLE, BOO.

lol, Shannon, you're so naive about business/economics that it's kind of cute. There's no such thing as making too much money when it comes to corporate companies, especially not for one like Apple. They're going to capitalize on whatever they can, however they can, which is exactly what they're doing right now. They know they've got Apple users hooked on their products and will upgrade to newer versions of whatever they put out, even if they complain about it as you are. It's how the free market economy we have works, through the relationship between consumers and the ones giving us products to consume.

June 7-11 all the details will be released! So glad, though, some people say they have early upgrade options for their current plan.. I just got my 3GS in August so I probably won't have those options Available. haha


Pretty sure the phone has to be jailbroken to access the plist, getting it off and on the phone requires you to ssh the phone. which is the technical term of being connected to the pc to transfer without the use of itunes.

where'd you find out about this? I've had my 3G S for about a year now and im sick of it.

lol, well I was just reading that if you update to 9.2 itunes, restore your iphone, you should be asked to download the iOS 4 firmware... gonna try this, not sure how well that'll work while I'm tethering with the iphone. actually no. I don't want to risk not getting my phone back, cause I just sold it to gazelle.com and supposed to be shipping it out today.

hahaha thats one of the flaws in the new iPhone 4.. it sucks, but there re 2 things to do in order to avoid the droppage of your signal..
-Buy a case or Apple 'Bumper'
-Hold it w/ right hand

not buying iphone 4 for two reasons:
1. I like Android too much

Yea, I heard the almost exact same thing. After my contract ends w/ AT&T, i'm switching back to Verizon to "Rule the Air" and going to an android phone like the Droid X or any other cool phones that come out into the wilderness..

I heard both things. A lot of things break from a three foot drop. Don't be careless.., I only dropped my 3gs once while I owned it for 8 months, and it was in the car while I was going to put it in the FM transmitter cradle... Nothing happened to it.

The thing that with the signal, I don't think it's true. Since they say it is something that can be fixed with a software update. If it was how its held, that would need a hardware update. It is probably software related due to how signal is shown on the phone, typically by bars, but the strength is measured in -dBm and I went into the apple store, repeated all the holding configs to get this, ran a field test and the signal strength was usually between -80 and -90 dBm I never went down to something ridiculous like -120 which is when you'd not connect at all. I have doubts that it is a software issue too.. but it is most likely...

yea my tio dropped my 3G S while he was holding it, from about 5'7" off the ground by accident and it ended up hitting the floor screen first, w/ only scratching the top right ridge of the silver edge.. and luckily i had my case on it like always..

I dropped my HTC Hero off the roof onto a wooden deck and it still looks new other than a little scrape on the bottom corner. The new iPhone breaks too easily.

Thats not that bad.. PRETTY TOUGH.
