I've been listening to this band a lot lately. Owl City is mainly... well it's hard to say. It's synthetic techno with a guy singing softly over it. The songs can range from dance to ambient, to alternative. You just have to hear it. I really love this band, the sound is something else, and the lyrics are often awesome.

This is one of my personal favorites:

And another:

I liked him at first but eventually got sick of his material. They started sounding too similar. If I hear Hello Seattle though, I just let it go on. I quite like that particular track, probably because it was the first one I heard from him.
deadmellotron
I'm a listener of Owl City, but I don't fancy listening to his music all the time. His newer material somewhat differs from his old material, but there are still drastic similarities in his sound. I fancy listening to his music when I'm in a glum mood or when it's raining outside. My favorite track by him is probably The Saltwater Room or Fireflies.
BlueHeroBH
I can see what you mean by too similar.

Yeah his songs always get me uplifted whenever I'm sad. :3 Saltwater Room is my favorite too.

im a recent fan of Owl City. After hearing his song on itunes, i went ahead and find all his album to purchase. His music is different, and the words are great. I love "dental care."
paozuu
i agree with mike. owl city is getting pretty famous now. underground music ftw :]
moorepocket
too bad he didn't do a tour in florida. I would totally go.
deadmellotron
His live performances are a little bit different from the actual music, though I've only seen it in videos. I'm still waiting for there to be a date in my area.
rnicron
free show oct 1 with the roman numerals and some other bands. i guess i'll go and check him out. only heard fireflies.
Amaranthus
I don't understand the hype over them.
moorepocket
i just heard his song on my "regular" radio station (93.3 FLZ) of tampa, florida. I was so excited, because that station just plays rock/hip-hop/pop.
BlueHeroBH
Cool.

His song "Fireflies" is #3 on iTunes top selling songs. :)

Right now, big fan. Favorites are:

- Hello Seattle (Remix) .. not so much the original. :/
- Fireflies
- Umbrella Beach
- Tidal Wave
- Vanilla Twilight
- Tip of the Iceberg
BlueHeroBH
Those are in my top songs too, along with the Christmas Song and Fuzzy Blue Lights.

Saltwater room still is on top for me though I keep listening to it. :3

Did anybody see his "Fireflies" music video??

Beenly
Fireflies is overplayed now. A LOT.
I'm glad to see it on iTunes as #1 though.
deadmellotron
I don't really here him overplayed, to be honest. He's been one of my most top played this week, and I've enjoyed listening to some old stuff. I'm really hooked on Umbrella Beach and Meteor Shower though.
TechnicolorPulse
I really like Owl City. The music is nice and very poetic. It has nice meaning and phrasing, although it tends to become a bit repetitive.
Gigi
Hate it. Lyrics are vomit-inducing; (bad) Postal Service hacks; voice even sounds like Ben Gibbard.

I watched the first 15 seconds of it earlier today, and couldn't continue with it.
deadmellotron
^ I watched it. But one thing I do not get is why bands make music videos that don't even fit into the theme or message of the song at all. It's just like they throw a whole bunch of random stuff about what they like and make a video out of one of their songs for it.

Nonetheless, I liked the video just because I'm into that kind of stuff.
Joanne
Oh the reason I couldn't finish the video had nothing to do with the visuals at all.. I couldn't really stand the guy's voice/sound of the song. pinch.gif
deadmellotron
Understandable. Everyone has their opinions. :)
Mike
The way he enunciates certain letters gets so annoying, especially with his newer material. Hello Seattle > anything else he's released.

ocean eyes begins with "Please take a good hard look at your textbook 'cuz I'm history," a dire miscarriage of wordplay that gives listeners fair warning to abandon the album immediately. Later in this same song, called "Cave In," Adam Young (Owl City's 23-year-old sole member) sings "every mushroom cloud has a silver lining," which his fans describe as "deep" and "chilling" instead of the more accurate "f*cking retarded." He's apparently suggesting his infantile optimism would survive even nuclear war, and that he'd be clapping his hands and singing "da da da" while skipping over radiation-scorched corpses. Actually, I guess that is pretty "chilling."

I don't like this guy's music (I've only heard the current stuff). His lyrics are terrible, but I guess it's what 13 year old girls like... so if he's cashing in on crappy electro music with lyrics that don't even line up more power to him.
Gigi
^ HAHAHA. And totally agreed.

I really like his old stuff, too. I don't really pay attention to his lyrics. At some times, they sound like really random lyrics that don't fit the song. But I really like the instrumentals and I do like his voice. It's calming music to me.
Amaranthus
I feel like he's having a conversation with a seven-year-old girl with whom he's trying to sleep with, then decided to use a vocoder. And then somehow this qualifies people as techno-aficionados.
