I saw the trailer for this about a week ago. I think it looks scary and bloody haha, but I've got to see it... I mean, BJ Novak in an action/adventure/drama?? That's enough reason in itself.
goth-nina
HOLY CRAP eek.gif

I'd watch anything done by Tarantino. Have his whole DVD collections.
& that dude from The Office was there. J.B Novak? Yeah, he plays Ryan.
Looks awesome, wanna own it already.

In German-occupied France, Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa. Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own...

QUOTE
Quentin Tarantino spent more than a decade writing the script because, as he told Charlie Rose in an interview, he became "too precious about the page," meaning the story kept growing and expanding. Tarantino viewed the script as his ultimate masterpiece in the making, so he felt it had to become the best thing he'd ever written.

Can't wait until the film's released. Lucky enough, Tarantino is taking over Sky Movies this weekend. Hoorah. Anyone else watching this?
Mike
Topics merged. Haha, forgot to search. I'm surprised you of all people would make a topic on this though, with all your White Power talk.

White Power!

the movie was pretty good; unfortunately, it had climactic moments of stupendous brevity. more or less, all of the tension embarrassingly releases in very brief moments of incomprehensible action, not fully satisfying. death proof, i feel, is vastly superior.
itanium
Might see it today

I was supposed to see this today with a whole bunch of people, but one of the guys had to work so me and him are going to see it tomorrow. I hope it'll be really good.

A standard Tarantino film; brilliant as always.
fixtatik
I think I'm in that 2% of the population who doesn't think Tarantino is brilliant. He's entertaining, yeah, but none of his work is exactly mind-blowing. I'm more partial to John Maybury, David Lynch and yeah...even Shyamalan.

OFFICIAL FILM SNOBS CLUB.

I heard it was overhyped, and the only redeeming part was Pitt's acting.
And the violence, of course.

Shameless plug.

I do agree though. Watching Basterds the second time around got me thinking. A lot of his cinematographic techniques aren't very original, and he tends to mash styles together in a way that often is annoying. It worked pretty well in Basterds, I'll admit though, and I liked it a lot. There was though a ridiculous amount of tension, and the dialogue kind of gave you the runaround.

Would just like to say that, even though Pitt did a great job, Christoph Waltz outshone everrrrybody.

Definitely, he stole the show. Brad Pitt impressed me but this guy was great!

Awesome movie, it was more indulgent than anything!

How satisfying was it to see Hitler's face getting blown up?
instantmusic
This movie was absolutely something else. Completely worth it. Had my guts turning thought at all times. Suspense was way too much.

I saw it a couple days ago, and honestly it wasn't very good.

I mean aside from any gore, I enjoy Tarantino's style. And I enjoy talking thrillers more than things blowing up everywhere, kind of thrillers, the 20 minute talking bar scene was probably my favorite in the movie. And I thought the acting was mostly great, the cinematography was good, the production in general was good.

But it goes to show none of that can redeem a mostly bad script. In my opinion, the story is downright stupid. There's little plot development. It's not historically accurate... which would be fine, but if you've seen the violence in the last chapter, you may know what I'm talking about. Characters are introduced and barely seen for the rest of the movie, AKA shifting the camera to a character and showing ten seconds of their past, only to have them die two minutes later. Or with Brad Pitt's character, who was never given any purpose for his role besides a one liner, "Lets go pwn nazis because they r like, total monsters guyz". There were scenes were I literally rolled my eyes, which I usually never do with TV or movies. Like the last scene with Frederick. But I don't want to mention any spoilers for the sake of spoiling. I think it was over hyped.

But that's just my opinion. I can see why others like it, though.

expecting character development in a tarantino film is like buying a salad @ mcdonalds.

Nein nein nein nein nein!

C'mon, I know that you have a 'refined' taste in movies but you really didn't enjoy it at all? Its not historically accurate and barely any character depth: I know. However, I don't know how to explain it, I'm not a critique guy like yourself, but just the feel of the movie... I mean were you there? =[
ArjunaCapulong
was samuel l jackson in this movie
aikobot
he narrated for HUGO STIGLITZ's back story

and ps, can we stop worrying about plot, storyline, and all that shit? this film was fun, funny, and f*cking satisfying. i love the idea of a WW2 alternate ending. it's not MEANT to be historically accurate. it's meant to be sorta ballsy, out-there, and fun. not every film you see is srs bizniz ok.
BlueHeroBH
Just to clear up before hand, I don't have a refined taste in movies, it's just that I don't like it when movies get over hyped and I think they're not so good, so I feel the need to say why I think whatever it is isn't that great.

Ha ha sure, it's summer after all. =P I admit it's worth the watch, I just find it nothing more than that.

ahaha, i made a post earlier saying that i liked the movie; i just find it to be one of tarantino's weakest films.
