In the next couple of paychecks, I'm looking to buy a new monitor for my computer. I'm looking for something that is widescreen, preferably widths of like 1400-1600 pixels. I need something really good for designing, and displays just as good of quality as old fashioned monitors. I don't really need a fancy looking monitor or anything. I'm trying to get my price range as minimal as possible, because I only make 100 something dollars every two weeks. Any ideas or suggestions?

What GPU do you have?

I was extremely surprised to find this:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...uct_id=10975678
Thats 1440x900.
If you want 20 inches and a better looking monitor then you can get one for 140.
A 22 inch then jumps to 200 but your resolution would then be
1920x1080 if you bought one like this:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...uct_id=11962564

For an extra 80 bucks you could get an extra 2 inches and get full 1080p hd.
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...uct_id=10910192
Same resolution though.

Since last year monitor prices have gone down tremendously.
Now is the time to buy.

so...

110 dollars = 19 inch 1440x900
200 dollars = 22 inch 1920x1200
260 dollars = 24 inch 1920x1200 1080p HD

And Im not sure if you like walmart but, I mean they are just another retailer and they have cheap prices and a good return policy.

Mind you, higher resolutions slow down your computer noticeably.

So you may want to spend 800 dollars and get a new computer with monitor.

I Saw a computer at Bestbuy for 800 dollars, it had 6gb ram a 2.8ghz processor and a 22 inch monitor.

How much dough?

I'd probably prefer to buy something from Newegg. I don't want to dish out a whole shitload of money. But I need the height too as well. I want something over 1000 in height.

And CJ, to answer your question I have Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller
Maccabee
Ok so 1440x900 wont work for you.

Really these are the only monitor resolution options that are higher then 1000.

1280x1024
1600x1200
1680x1050
1920x1080
1920x1200

Just go to newegg and set it from lowest priced to highest and then go up until you find the best deal.

Really the only important factor is size, and resolution.
Brand isnt that big of a deal. I mean every brand has fanboys so you cant really pick which one is best.

cant remember. It wasnt badly priced though

Alright then, you should be able to support most monitors. I was just making sure you didn't have some 16 Mb card from 1998.

Both are 1080p @ 21.5 inches with a 5ms response time. The LG has a better contrast ratio, which is good for graphic design. The LG is also a bit lighter.

And response time, and contrast ratio, and brightness, and pixel pitch, and viewing angle, and refresh rate, and display colors.

Also fanboys are really only common with GPU, CPU, and prebuilt manufacturers. You're not going to find a whole lot of people who are set on one brand of monitor.

I know of a few...

Something I was wondering, do you prefer glossy or matte?

This doesn't matter. Get matte.

Glossy attracts fingerprints, dust, and everything else you don't want on your monitor.

I saw a matte screen that looked like the kindle. Like it looked like paper.

Omg! TJ do you mind if I use your thread for a few monitor questions?
I found this monitor on newegg and to me, it looks feaking amazing! My only question is... how can they fit such a large resolution on only 23 inches? i have only seen that resolution on 30 inch monitors! Will text be really small? And what is better between these two?

TJ if you can afford it you should get one of these becaue these resolutions are ginormous!

just get an imac, so worth it.

and i know youll have something to say about the price, but it is much much efficiant for graphics and design prijects, less likely to get a virus (ive never had one) and is fast, simple and ive never had a problem with it.

Oh yeah, I saw that, too dude. We'll see if I can get one. I'm looking on Craigslist everyday for some. It will take me like a month and a half's worth of paychecks for me to buy that.

eh. idk craigs list just seems kinda...fishy. Could be just me, my area is small so i guess everything just is different with my POV.

^ I get a lot of my stuff from Craigslist cause it is cheaper. I got a 1 TB external hard drive for 75 dollars off of there.

Maybe i shall re-think...
Its just a pain because it just seems like not a lot of people use it in northern michigan sad.gif

It just depends on when you look and everything. For some reason, night time is when people put stuff up. We get like two pages of listing in technology each day.

The Acer is overpriced, but I wouldn't go for a resolution that high if it's under 25 inches anyway.
Maccabee
Cant I always increase the...umm I forgot whats its called It make all text larger but it doesnt change the resolution. I really wanted a resolution that wide but couldn't afford anything 25 inches.

None of he reviews complained that the resolution was o big for the size.
