i only rented the directors cut. yah, it's a real thinking movie. i like those kinds.
I prefer the original cut over the director's. The director's cut has some score changes and some added visuals that I couldn't disagree with more. Either way, I own both copies. I don't think I'll ever really watch the director's cut again though, except for that hilarious commentary featuring
Kevin Smith. But, this movie gets alot more credit than it deserves in thinking regions. It really isn't that difficult a film to disect. If you want a real puzzel of a time travel film (one that is far smarter than
Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko), try the film
Primer.
Seriously,
Primer is great. Such a smart time travel flick.
As for
Donnie Darko, I really like the flick. But, I can't stand the Jesus interpretation. It tends to make me want to gag. Just a really fun, clever, funny, and cute flick.

This is exactly how and why I enjoy Donnie Darko. I've never found the the film to be intellectually illuminating, it's just a cool movie. In fact, I've often referred to it as a "fun no-brainer." That and I could hear Gary Jules' version of "Mad World" a million times and never get tired of hearing it.

ok I can see I'm the only one who is going to say something negative about it . I saw the movie awhile ago and I wasn't that much inpressed. A lot of people found it hard to understand but I got it in the first shot . It was a deja vu in way for me ...has anyone seen the Butterfly effect yeah spoiler time .. the ending is sorta similar by them both figuring out they have to die to set things right .. but for different reasons . I found it an ok movie but nothing special. thats my 2 cents worth.

How can you compare it to The Butterfly Effect?

Jul 13 2006, 01:00 AM
I just saw it today at a friends house and I loved it. First thing I did when I got home was go on sites and get background information, cuz I was super confused. I think I have a good interpretation of it now. It's really good and u should all check it out. I went on the donniedarko site and I think I finished it ?? BTW the music is really awesome in the movie

Yeah, I saw the
Butterfly Effect. Refer to my
my top ten list of worst movies ever made.
Ahem, but what I wanted to say... I really don't believe that both characters had to "die" to "set things right." I would say that the character of Donnie Darko had completed his mission in setting things right, his death could very well have been a mistake. I don't see the Jesus model in Donnie Darko, I think Richard Kelly is smarter than that. Or, at least, I would hope he is.
But, yeah. What Kathleen said: Honestly comparing The Butterfly Effect to Donnie Darko? I mean, you could... but the division is so strong I don't think I could bare.

THANK YOU! No offense to the downloader, but it's more than a little irritating when people dl movies that cost as little as 10$ to buy.
And there is absolutely nothing comparable to Donnie Darko and The Butterfly Effect, other than a penchant for the leading performers to overact.

I would have to agree. As a rampant downloader of movies, I have confronted myself with many a moral justification and ethical thought surrounding the act of pirating films. This all is heightened by the fact that one day I hope to work within the film business. The majority of the films that I download are both very exspenisve to purchase, and hard to find, or near impossible to find. They tend to be foreign. Also, I like to buy independent films which I support and enjoy. In the case of Donnie Darko, this wasn't hard and the original DVD is very cheap. I also purchased the Director's cut, despite its bombastic price. Also, downloading, in my case, is used as a kind of rental service. I purchase those films which are worthy. I want to support good film and expand my collection, but at the same time I don't want to be cheated, nor do I have a never ending flow of cash.
Overacting. Ha, so true!

I love it, to death. My signature is a quote from the movie. Yes, I know, I'm uber awesome. Haha, I only kid. *spoiler* I like the end, where the one kid is like, "My neighbor got smooshed by a jet plane engine. His name was Donnie Darko." Then he asks Gretchen if she knew him, and she's all, "Nope. Never heard of him. Sorry." I love that.

Against downloading , no prob. Your opinion =D , Zatanna watch out with that mad face bud , you probaly have at least 10 people close to you doing it to , watch out there =) Anyways about Donnie Darkoo
I had no idea wth happened in the end , I had to search Wiki in the end , which says he was taking placebos so he was never really crazy and two different tangent worlds and one was going to end soon so he rather die himself then gretchen , his mom and dad and little sister die.

Well... it is about a boy, Donnie, who has a six foot tall bunny, Frank, come to him and tell him things. Sounds weird, I know. But I think it is great!
That is exactly why I like it so much!
So the writers basically ripped off
Harvey and made it more trippy?
