alright homies, since thomas' design competition has ended, i'm going to start a new one.

basics:

- it will be formatted similar to thomas' in that there is no real elimination, only winners each round. you can compete in every round regardless of whether you win or don't win the round before. also you can pick and choose rounds to participate in. so for example, if you're too busy for round 1, you can still enter round 2, 3, 4 ect later on.

- i'm going to be steering this competition away from things like icons, blends, myspace layouts and towards more "real life" design. examples: book covers, posters, package design, website layout, logos, stationery, whatever else we can come up with.

- as far as winners, there will be a separate pinned thread where the winners and runners up of each round will have their work displayed. so there will be a lot of winners probably. to determine an over all winner we're going to use a point system. if you win a round you get 10 points, if you are the runner up you get 5 points, everyone else competing in that round gets 0. at the end of the contest whoever has the most points is the "official" winner over all.

- the "official" winner and runner up will receive free advertising on Gabi (schizo) & Amanda's (Blaqheartedstar) sites. there may or may not be more prizes added later on depending on how the contest plays out. recognition as the winner is your main prize.

Lol, yeah, but unfortunately we don't really have means of giving away 25 bucks or $50, unlike Thomas' competition. At least we have people interested, so that's good.

What if the winner doesn't have a site, though? For instance, the only things I have are a cb and myspace account, and I doubt Gabi and Amanda would want to advertise a personal myspace like that.

Well we discussed this and Gabi said that we would probally just advertise the winner's cB account but that's when I thought that maybe a new rank title (DotM "Designer of the Month") could be given to the winner. You can check the thread out in the Feedback forum. Although, JC mentioned that the prize could change, so yeah...

Either way, it'll still be fun to participate!

i don't have an exact day yet. i just posted this thread yesterday, so i'm going to give it a few more days for people to log on and see it. my estimate is that we'll start the first round next week possibly? we'll just have to see.



to everyone participating:

if you wanna post here and let me know when you have finals/end of year tests that might be helpful. i'm not gonna promise to cater to everyone's schedule...but if we have a lot of people who have finals around the same time then that will for sure be something we'll take into consideration when thinking about round themes and length.




mike brought this up too. which is why i say that recognition for wining is your main prize. you'll go in a design competition hall of fame. same as other competitions on cb that don't give tangible rewards. i think thomas has kind of spoiled some people now there may or may not be other prizes added later that would fix that, i can't guarantee anything really right now.

if you have your graphic work based on myspace or a cb account, they will advertise that. for instance in your case you have a sort of business on your myspace. ( it looks like anyway) you can still advertise that.

It doesn't really matter what kind of site it is. I've had people advertise myspaces, deviantart accounts, blogspot pages, and referrer links to other sites (that one's the only one I ever debated over accepting).

O and last edit, I was wondering what you mean by website layout.
Do you mean an actual layout that is coded and works even as you add more content or just an image. Like a div. Cause an image is a lot easier to make then an actual website. And websites can't be a div.

And why do we have a list of interested people? haha, some people will join in some rounds and others won't! no biggy.

as far as websites, i plan on doing just an image. i personally have no plans on wanting a coded layout. i think that's limiting to a lot of people here who can't code. i'm more interested in seeing their design skills than code skills personally.


we have a list of interested people to keep up with who's interested and get a feel for it. it's not binding. just becuase you are on the list doesn't mean you have to compete in every round or at all.

Oh, and JC, at what time would judging take place? I usually get home around 4:30 here so idk.

that's something you, natalia, gabi and i will have to work out how we want to do. i don't really know yet. i figure we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Yeah, do it like the photography and fashion contest. They always give great critique and reasons why and why not some one won/didn't.
